Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Make sure TSB's have been taken care of which includes airbag lite/coolant expansion tank/oil seals(rear main)/gas cap (some have triggered check engine lites-didn't happen to me but there's a new emissions recall to replace with new gas cap).

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Look on the door sill and get the build date (month and year). MY99 was the first year for the 996 (in the US) and they fixed a number of small problems throughout the year. If you are buying from a Porsche dealer make sure they have done ALL the updates.
I have a 99 and it has been trouble free and a great car. Mine is a June 99 build and it only needed a couple of updates. Congratulations!
Make sure TSB's have been taken care of which includes airbag lite/coolant expansion tank/oil seals(rear main)/gas cap (some have triggered check engine lites-didn't happen to me but there's a new emissions recall to replace with new gas cap). Other things not TSB but covered under warranty is center console hinge breakage, sun visor vanity mirror breakage. Of coarse always get a PPI(prepurchase inspection) on the car. Things you may want in the car optionwise is full leather interior(definite must),litronic headlites, traction control(LSD-works great on the track) which is a great baseline to start with. As usual Loren is a great source of info(mister guru!!!) if you need to know about tech stuff. Also there's a wealth of info here with regards to mods so post if you need to know anything. May I enquire why you're getting rid of the M3? Hope you get to track the car because it's a winner!!! Regards. Mike
I have wanted a 911 since I was in highschool and drove an '82 911 targa. I just kept getting other car since I couldn't afford a new one. Well I bought this '02 M3 and it is a truely increadible car. The power and handling is amazing, but it is no different cosmetically than my 330. The interiors are identical and I just want something that stands out. Porsche's are true sports cars and are always inspiring when you see one drive by.
I did the same thing. I had a 993 and bought a 02 E-46 M3. Great car, but after 2k miles sold and bought a used 996. You will be pleased. The M3 just didn't have the sports car feel like the Porsche. I have been very please.
Another recall item you need to be aware of on the 99's is the engine lid for corrosion. I had a '99 cab that was a Sept. '98 build and it was a great car. It was a daily driver with 55k miles when I traded it in for an '02 cab. Never had a moment's trouble with it other than the minor warranty issues that other have noted.
