Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
Go take a test drive with a PSM vehicle, in heavy rain, on the most nasty road you can find with wicked cambers, decreasing radius corners, nasty elevation changes, etc., drive the thing as hard as your comfort level allows, and see if PSM is an advantage.
Leading evidence: 'Test drive' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Test drive' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Driving it hard, a planned test drive, will neevr answer the question.

You would not want to test your driver's air bag, would you?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As I ponder the exact set up of the C2 I wish to purchase, I have to consider PSM. I have Porsche owning friends who are staunch pro and con. Any opnions would be appreciated.

I have yet to get my car on the track (only 384 miles)so I can't vouch for the PSM's utility. However, if you get it, and you don't want to use it , you can turn it off. If you want to use it, and you don't have it.... you can't turn it on.
You are paying for the option. I got it, and now have the choice!!
My opinion is that it's most useful on the street, particularly if you drive your Porsche in foul weather(as I do with my 996TTX50). On the track, it cuts power on corner exit, particularly when the tires heat and pressures rise. AS
Got it on my 2000 C2 love it.
It has made me a much smoother driver and do not find it effects my overall times.
(1:24's at Robeling Road) in a car that was not sorted out yet. My car has a very agressive race suspension.(JRZ's and a bunch of other add on's). And no "Disco Lights" on the dash with PSM ON.
Sometimes, I'll get a little flash if I cook a turn but as I said you can turn it off.
I have had it COME ON big time on a very fast sweeper (110+) where I hit (oil, antifreeze, or some other sh*%) and the car stepped way out. It was worth every penny that day. (Keeps your car smelling fresh after an event like that.)
For day in day out you will not know its there.
IF it does kick in it will have saved your butt on the street. (Rain...snow...sand)
Best money you'll spend.
You gotta make that decision for yourself.
Go take a test drive with a PSM vehicle, in heavy rain, on the most nasty road you can find with wicked cambers, decreasing radius corners, nasty elevation changes, etc., drive the thing as hard as your comfort level allows, and see if PSM is an advantage. If it never lights up, or if you can handle the vehicle with it off, you probably don't need it.
psm is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy. it intrudes only in extreme moments. the advantages of psm cannot be adequately appreciated on a test drive unless you drive like a maniac in a monsoon! <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />
Have to agree with wwest and ignacio. PSM is a safety item. True, it has a speedsters soul, but it is still a safety item. You would not want to test your driver's air bag, would you?
In the short time I've had mine, it's pretty much rained the whole time.
I can say I've lit off the PSM about 6-8 times. A few times I was just trying to mess around and gunned it out of a corner.
But twice it saved my *** for sure. I had to swerve around a truck that cut me off, and it kept me inline. I also took a wet fast corner too quick, I felt understeer coming, then I heard/felt the rear brakes come on and I dropped about 10mph just like that.
Spend whatever money you have to to get it!
Another issue to consider when ordering PSM is the fact that there is no limited slip option as PSM effectively serves this purpose when it brakes the inboard wheel. In my opinion, you don't want a 300 or 320 hp. 2900# car with an open differential.
Do a Porsche Driving Experience and kill two birds.
You'll come to appreciate PSM, and may even become a better driver.
IMH, it's a great option.
