Mine went flashing after just going over 4000 rpm and after replaced the flashing stops.

Did your coolant expansion tank get replaced yet(TSB for that) and sounds like the MAF sensor is contaminated which with the idling problems you're having sounds like the MAF is going zonkers to find a sweetspot somewhere.

Suggestion
After disconnection of the power supply, the idle speed might change or fluctuate briefly until the idle speed positioner (M 5.2) or the throttle adjusting unit (ME 7.2) is readapted.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Ok this is driving me mad! I been having problem with the engine light on so got the 30k service and the service manager told about that it was the new BME filter. Ok so, I put back the original parts to the airbox and put back the original filter. BUT THE LIGHT IS STILL GOING ON!
So, I figure to disconnect the battery for the car to reset. NOW, the cars starts rough and idle high around 12k/11k rpm. But, when the air condition is turned on then it idle arund 800 rpm. Now, I got a new bug. The cars temp gauge tells me it is running around the middle of the zone but the overheating light is flashing.
Can someone help or had this kinda experience.
TIA
Bloke,
When the overheating light is on, check your water level, it could be too low. Happend to me also but only when i was pushing the car.(air in the water coolant system)

A number of things can cause the check engine light to go on. From a loose gas cap, loose oil filler cap, fouled MAF sensor, etc., etc., etc. Your dealer should have a readout from the PS2 tester.
To reset the DME the battery needs to be disconnected for 2-5 min. and then it needs to re-learn so an intial rough idle is not upcommon.
DME Idle Reset
From the Porsche Technical Manual --
DME control module:
After disconnection of the power supply, the idle speed might change or fluctuate briefly until the idle speed positioner (M 5.2) or the throttle adjusting unit (ME 7.2) is readapted. The mixture adaptation is also lost.
Remedy:
After the battery is connected:
With the DME ME 7.2, it is necessary to carry out a learning and adaptation routine as described below:
* Switch the ignition on for 1 minute without starting the engine. Do not actuate accelerator pedal.
* Switch off ignition for at least 10 seconds.
This completes the adaptation of the throttle adjusting unit.
With all DME systems, the engine must run for several minutes before the engine control module can relearn the idle speed and mixture adaptation values.
Coolant Light
The coolant light has the following meaning(s):
Four functions of the coolant warning light:
1. Engine coolant level too low -- light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz)
2. Engine compartment temperature too high -- light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz) (engine compartment blower might be faulty)
3. Engine coolant temperature too high -- light is lit; pointer on the right
4. Temperature sensor at water outlet faulty -- light flashes rapidly (1 Hz) ; pointer on the right
Note: The temperature warning in item three is indicated if the conditions "engine coolant temperature too high" AND "engine coolant level too low" are present simultaneously.
Did your coolant expansion tank get replaced yet(TSB for that) and sounds like the MAF sensor is contaminated which with the idling problems you're having sounds like the MAF is going zonkers to find a sweetspot somewhere. Like Loren said have service department do a readout and check for if the TSB for the coolant expansion tank was done. Mine went flashing after just going over 4000 rpm and after replaced the flashing stops. Good luck dude. Mike
Doug,
I use two pieces of "essential" information. The technical manuals come in a set of 14 volumes and I think I paid about $478. Bought them from My-Porsche (WKD-483-721) -- great service, got them 2 days after I ordered them.
I also use an online service for up-to-date service bulletins and some additional detail. That service is
AllDataDIY.com. It is $24.95 for the first year/first car and $14.95 to add cars or renew. Both are very valuable (IMHO).
Loren,
Thanks for the real info! Better then the crappy owner's manual. I was getting a slow blinking and check the coolent level and appears too low. The weather has been rather hot over here lately on the east coast. Added about 1 quart and took it for a spin and hasnt come back.
As for rough idle! It is also gone but the idle speed is everywhere. It is high as 12.5k to 800 with the a/c on.
I am going to try to reset again following your method but I am sending the car back in.
Thanks for your help!
