I replaced the amber 194's with LED bulbs (I used JamStraight 194-HA's, but anyone's amber LED's are probably cool).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I finally picked up my first Porsche. It's a black 2001 C2 Cab. Had to go with a cab as I live in Florida and I think I'd have kicked myself if I didn't. A couple of questions from a newbie: - Car Cover: I garage my C2 Cab at home, however at work (daily driver) is it worth it to cover it in the parking lot? - Driving Bra(bonnet protector): Many years a go I had a new 300Z and I immediately got a driving bra for it but I was constantly taking it off after it rained and then re-installing it when the thing dried. Once I didn't get to it and my nice red paint got clouded (a detailer spent awhile buffing it out). Are driving bras worth the hassle? Anyone who using them, do you remove it when it gets wet? - Clear side marker lights: What's invovled in removing the old ones and installing new ones? TIA

POST 2Original post

Congrats! Rain is still a problem with bras. The only time I use one is on a road trip. BTW, I am new here too.

POST 3Original post

Congrats. Dont use a bra. Get the clear film installed on the front. It is a 3M product that stays on and prevents rock chips. It is marketed under a few different names like: Autobahnd Roadblock, Armourfend, etc..It is around $500-$600 dollars installed, but it is great. Get the clear side markers, easy to install, takes 20 seconds each, no tools needed. Good Luck.

POST 4Original post

Congrads and looks great. Instead of all this bra and car cover stuff. Get yourself fitted with a new set of wheels. Those 17inch wheels arent going to cut it. Since you did spend all that money for that lovely car. A nice set of 18inches are well worth it the extra.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wheels are on my list. Any suggestions for 18" wheels? I know there are plenty of opinions about what looks good (let me hear them), but any technical pros/cons of certain wheels? Paul

POST 6Original post

I've been in south FL for 7 year and don't use a car cover. However, I usually have covered parking. If you park in the sun, the leather can fade unless you have tinted windows with UV filtering.

POST 7Original post

Congratulations on your 996 Cab. It's a beautiful car (narrow-bodies rule BTW). I agree about the nuisance of a bra (they get dirty and can scratch just by attaching and removing them). Car cover question is more complex I think. You have a black car which is going to absorb heat like crazy so any dirst, foreign matter like birdsh*t, etc. is literally going to cook into the finish. OTOH, attaching and removing a car cover can also scratch. If the inside gets the least bit dirty there's a possibility of making marks in the hot finish. Park it in the shade and "stuff" will drop off. Park it in the sun and it will cook. I guess it's a real trade-off. I don't use mine as a daily driver so I don't have the same problem. I have one of those silver covers, but use it only after a fresh wash/wax when the car is put up for a few days. Eigher way I would get dash protection and/or windshield shade. Regarding 18" wheels...of course I like the 18" sport design on mine. Gives it a very balanced look.

POST 8Original post

I agree with Don! I have the same wheels and they are great but a bit painful to clean as you can see why. But, you can also get the different selection from the 2002 wheels. If, you like the turboish look. Also, they are a bit widers if I am not mistaken.

POST 9Original post

First suggestion... get your windows tinted by a reputable shop. It will save your interior and make the AC more efficient. Second... for a daily driver I would avoid the car cover. It will get dirty and scratch the finish. Third... skip the bra, the armourfend is a better solution IMO, or you can just go naked For the clear side markers, look in the owners manual and find out how to change the bulbs in the marker lights. You will see how the lenses come off. Have fun.

POST 10Original post

I have posted the side marker pics in one thread and the Clear Bra pics in another, so I'll combine them for here. 1st off. The side markers are joke at how easy they are. In my pics below, you'll see the finished product, but you'll also see the clear bra line up close. Here's a pic of the before shot of the side marker... you'll notice the line above it that's the Stongard. I'm doing a link so this post won't be huge. Amber Side Marker / Clear Bra up Close shot Next, is the after result of side marker. I also have the Stongard in this pic, but it's hard to see unless you're right up close: Clear Side Marker / Clear Bra, but you have to look hard for it Notice in the 2nd pic, you can barely see the clear bra. I highly recommend that! It has saved me much head ache with rock chips and I never see it and neither do others.

POST 11Original post

One other thing. The Stongard covers both the front bumper and the hood/headlight level as well. You can't see the bumber level on that 2nd pic. It gives me a peace of mind when I hear stuff hitting my windshield, I know that I'm not losing any paint. Regular bras suck! They can/will scratch and damage your car in good weather, and in bad weather, they are worthless. Your experience w/ your 300ZX is what I've heard stories about. You can get more info. at www.stongard.com I am so happy w/ this that I shamelessly promote the product, but I do not work there or anything. Good luck w/ what you're considering!

I replaced the amber 194's with LED bulbs (I used JamStraight 194-HA's, but anyone's amber LED's are probably cool). They light up as nice as the glass ones, but when the sun shines on them, all you see is clear. [quote]Originally posted by Scott in Houston: (snip) 1st off.
