Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Jreid is right if not to badly scratched you can just sand and use SEM filler primer if needed then repaint or use the bondo if deep scratches just remember to clean surface real good.

BTW - If the recommendation is to have it professionally painted, can anyone recommend a shop in the Raleigh, NC area?

To be honest, I would probably use good old fashioned Bondo - something like

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I think that's the right name for the piece that extends below my front spoiler.
Mine is quite scratched and could stand to be refinished.
Should I do it myself?
Or should I remove it and take it to a professional paint shop to have it repainted?
It seems easy enough to pull it off and refinish it at home with a semi-gloss finish, but I'd love to hear from someone who has done this before.
Bob
Here's a photo of the part....
BTW - If the recommendation is to have it professionally painted, can anyone recommend a shop in the Raleigh, NC area?
Bob
Bob, it's plastic not painted so it would be easier to just replace it.......and then STAY OFF THOSE CURBS!
By the way, the p/n is 996.505.986.00 and retail is $63.85
If you have some spare time: Sand it, fill it, and then hit it with some flat black BBQ paint. If not, I'd buy a new one and keep the scratched one around for trackdays and whatnot.
To be honest, I would probably use good old fashioned Bondo - something like
this
. I know it's traditionally used as dent filler on body panels, but 3M says it's good for virtually any surface.
Actually it is. It's almost $300 for the MkII splitter. The cheaper option would be the MkII Cup Splitter which is even larger and roughly $200. The cup splitter is what most of us put on our GT3s
Jreid is right if not to badly scratched you can just sand and use SEM filler primer if needed then repaint or use the bondo if deep scratches just remember to clean surface real good. No matter how careful I am I still catch the lip on mine. GL
Now would the splitter be actually useful? My thoughts were that the aero kit lowered the height of the front and if putting a splitter on the front on a "regular front", the splitter would be at an angle. Or does the modification take care of that? I would be worried that it would look odd.
And this makes me want something else to buy if it does work. I'd love to see if anyone had a photo of this mod.
Never said it would look good. Just said it can be fitted.
The only way to truly to get it work optimally is get the larger aero bumper, drop the ride height, attach the splitter, and then you can reduce lift in the front.
I am running the MkII splitter on my MkI aero front. It looks WAAAAAAAAAAy better than that crappy $65 lip.
From the side profile it is fine IMHO. It's the front that I think is a fail. I prefer the smooth lines of the MkI aero with the smooth rounded lights and the MkII aero with the 02+ cars that have the sharp line headlinghts. Just my $.02
Speaking of that.............
What is better than Roses on a Piano?
Tulips on an Organ!
Sorry, I didn't have anything to add about the spitter..... er, I mean splitter!
Thanks for all the info, everyone. The scratches aren't too deep on mine, so I might try the bondo route first. If it looks like crap, then I'll just buy it.
This initiative started b/c a piece of slate roofing (or something that looked like slate) flew off a truck on the highway and was flipping end-over-end just as my spoiler arrived. No significant damage - just a slightly marred clear bra, and a much more scratched splitter.
Thanks again!
Bob
Wow Bob. Sounds like you got off pretty lucky there considering what the damage
could
have been. Glad you had the clear bra
That spoiler will get nicked and scraped regardless being so low to the ground. I'd take some wet/dry sandpaper and smooth out to the best of your ability and leave it as is until something really terrible happens to it, and then replace.
I am afraid, and not discounting your
Bondo
skills
, that getting too involved with it will not improve the look.
