Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Following advice from this board i recently replaced my Continental tyres with Bridgestone SO2's N1 on a 1998 996C2 with 18" turboII wheels.
Leading evidence: 'Replace continental tyres' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'car will feel a little different' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace continental tyres' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

So I let 4 more out which gave me around 36/44 when hot (ie what I use for the road)

If you were in the low 30's then yes you cooked them puppies..but it felt good right...I suspect the car will feel a little different with the higher preasures.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Following advice from this board i recently replaced my Continental tyres with Bridgestone SO2's N1 on a 1998 996C2 with 18" turboII wheels. I have done around 600 road miles and just complted my first track day. Issues
1. excessive road noise 50mph - 70mph is this normal ?
2. I usually let out 4psi for my style of driving on track. Today with this the car felf terrible so I let out 8psi. The guys at the track insisted I should be adding pressure not letting out and my tyres have feathured on the edges of the blocks quite badly. This was without any flash stuff on the track.
Anyone any comments ?
Thanks guys.
1. excessive road noise 50mph - 70mph is this normal ?
Yes to some extent. What PSI are you running on the street?
"2. I usually let out 4psi for my style of driving on track. Today with this the car felf terrible so I let out 8psi......"
What PSI are you using on the track?
With cold tires you should get about 6 PSI increase to when you come off the track.
If you cooked your tires on the outside edges then you have a couple of things you can do to help. Add more preasure ( to a point!!!)
Then if that fails to fix the problem add neg camber. Bone stock the 996 has (0-.5) degrees of camber if your lucky you got the .5 . But this fix comes at a price. When driving on the road normally you will tend to wear the inside edges faster. I'd pump up the preasures first. try 35-36 in the front and 38 to 39 in the rear. You always want at least a 2 PSI diff front to rear!!!
If you were in the low 30's then yes you cooked them puppies..but it felt good right...I suspect the car will feel a little different with the higher preasures. Try it and see where your limits are next time you go to the track. Work on one turn that you feel good pushing it a few times.
P.S That is why a lot of us have an extra set of rims with sticky tires...less noise on the drive home
I suspect you ran your tires too low and rolled the edges a lot..which really grinds off the outside blocks fast

32 front 40 rear Both cold settings

Got about 8 psi increase at 32/40 making them 38/48. So I let 4 more out which gave me around 36/44 when hot (ie what I use for the road)

Thanks for the feedback. Edges not too bad. It does seem that tires got too hot and sticky and this is why they feathured.
CMJ,
I dont know much about 996s but we've had a few 993 threads on tyre pressure.
IMHO, Arent your rears somewhat on the high side.
On my 18", I have 36 all round for street use.
I understand that they should be slightly less for track use
