Forgot to mention that I replaced the cassette storage box in the front center console with a storage bin similar to the one at the base of the console.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

This is my first Porsche. I haven't even picked up the car yet and I am already thinking of aftermarket mods. What do you guys think I should do to it first? Thanks for any help
Drive it a lot. It's hard to improve on the stock unit. Having said that, I installed a Ruf short shift mechanism, clear side markers, aluminum/leather shifter and handbrake to go with the small aluminum package that came with the car. May change the Ruf unit to a B&M short shift due to concerns about the friction and added shift effort. I have the factory sport exhaust, but understand that the Fabspeed unit is excellent. Will put in aluminum gauge faces when they are available for the '02 996. May have the rear center console painted Guards Red (body color). May install Fabspeed headers and airbox. Email me if you want links to suppliers or search this site for further info on components you want to learn about. [email removed]
Take yout time and enjoy it. You have to go thru the break in period anyway so after that you can decide what you want to do. I would recommend a short shift kit first then go from there.Regards. Mike
Forgot to mention that I replaced the cassette storage box in the front center console with a storage bin similar to the one at the base of the console. It's about $35 at the dealer and snaps in easily. Much more useful than the cassette or CD storage that came with the car.
If you go to my website www.986host.com/gallery/doncapecod and look at page 11 (you have to go to p10 first) you'll see some closeup pics of the RUF pedals.

I'm also looking at mods for my C4S (June Build, July Delivery). All of the mods mentioned are among my top considerations.
When is your build/delivery date?
Congratulations!
Drive it, drive it, drivers ed it, autocross it. Then smile!
Depends on what you want to do with it? If you are into autox or de, R compound tires and race wheels are # 1, suspension # 2, then some power goodies. Be careful that you don't get bumped to modified class though.
This is my 0.02 worth. I've driven Porsche's in the past, but this is the first time I've actually owned and can afford to do anything I want with it.
The C4S is such a great car that after 3000 miles of driving it, I am still finding new and amazing things about it's character. From religiously reading all the posts from multiple forums as well as subscribing to almost any Porsche related mag, I've been cycling through a variety of upgrade options. Wanting it, then discarding it, then wanting it again as I explore all the capabilities and limitations of the car. I have to tell you, it is a ton of FUN!!! Sooner or later, one of the things that I want will stick in the "I want" side, THEN I'll go and get it.
I highly recommend the above experience. As I read the posts under this topic, so do the others. Drive, drive, drive, and enjoy your first Porsche. Join the local PCA, attend some DE's, do some autocross, read what Porsche veterans have to say, and sooner or later, the perfect set of upgrades for you will present themselves.
Don Watson!!! Is that dirt I see on your carpet?? Tsk, Tsk. Shame.
Robb:
If you live in Hermosa, I'm assuming you bought it from Pacific. If so, hopefully Stewart Howe. Having said that, he is a good P-car instructor and would take you (and car) to Willow Springs for some instruction on their DE days.
Other than that I would strongly agree with the guys above.
1) First Porsche , IMMEDIATELY buy some HOW TO DRIVE/TRACK books. SEE THREADS.
2) Join the PCA (perhaps POC, don't know your track appetite) and get some DE's under your belt.
3) Lower it, ROW springs.
4) Alum. Pedals are a nice touch.
Go to your local regions (or come to OC's) get togethers. You will see alot of nice mod'd cars, meet plenty of nice people and discuss how much they spent on mod's.
Congrats & Enjoy,
