I had the same issues with my 1999 C2, and had the coolant expansion tank replaced under warranty and now all is well.

I know to check the fluid level and never to add glycol coolant as this will kill your system.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The warning light flashes when the coolant is hot. So..... if the coolant is hot and not cooling the engine down AS efficiently, why doesn't the engine temperature begin to rise? I'm at 185 degrees and the light is flashing..... I had the rpm's high all the way home tonight (12 miles) to listen to the K&N I just put in.... VERY nice. I know to check the fluid level and never to add glycol coolant as this will kill your system. I guess this one is for the engineers here...... so what gives?

POST 2Original post

Time for a dealer trip, there's a TSB for this problem. Coolant Expansion Tank replacement - The new coolant expansion tank (part number, 996 106 147 55) prevents false illumination (flashing) of the coolant warning light when the volume of coolant fluctuates in the expansion tank. Good Luck! David

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's funny, last time I was in for warranty work (A broken console hinge) they said there were no other TSB's out at that time...... I'll call them and see what they say.....

POST 4Original post

Were these the same guys who wanted to replace your flywheel and charge you an arm and a leg for the clutch? Hmmmmmmm.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The same..... I know... Run!

POST 6Original post

Actually, a TSB is basically a " how to " service bulletin for a specific common problem. No dealer is obligated to update anything if it ain't broken . On the other hand, a NHTSA recall action must be done at Porsche expense if VIN search shows it hasn't been performed - whether in or out of warranty .

POST 7Original post

Long live AIR-cooling!!! Sorry, couldn't help it . . .

POST 8Original post

What kind of intake did you put in or was it just a drop in K&N ???? Any suggestions?

POST 10Original post

They should replace the coolant reservoir. There IS a TSB on this. Run to another dealer. Brent
