Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

27 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Learn from my mistake. Get an extinguisher and be prepared to use it. Not sure it would have helped as it was fuel related and the fire was incredibly intense. I'm OK and my wife keeps telling me thats the important part - doesn't quite feel that way right now though .....

POST 2Original post

Oh, crap, Glenn. Sorry to see this. I'm glad you're fine, too. But I understand.

POST 3Original post

Really sorry to see that. I always keep a fire extinguisher in my Porsche. Cheap insurance, particularly on harder to replace models. As they get older they also become more vulnerable to fuel leaks.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Dan - I had one in the car - just wasn't thinking about using it - saw monster flames and just wanted to get the f**k out. Not really sure it would have helped as it had been there for at least 7 or 8 years. Thats the other lesson I've learned. Make sure its checked annually.

POST 5Original post

Damn, that really stinks.... sorry to see that happen.

POST 7Original post

Wow Just opened the box for my new AFF system for the new race car. Real sorry for the loss but this helps confirm my purschase of a system rather than just an extinguisher...... just pull the cable from in the car or outside. Your wife is right BTW.

POST 8Original post

The main thing Glen is that your OK - you can always buy another car. Trust me, your bottle wouldn't have put a dint in the fire if you had a split line - the pressure in the system would keep pumping out fuel even with the car off. You did the right thing - worry about your butt first - let the insurance company take of the asset. What street was this on?

POST 9Original post

Crap, that's a drag seeing that damage, but glad you're okay. I do have a good extinguisher in my '62 Cabrio, and it's not a bad idea for any car, or kitchen for that matter.... Was the car completely restored, or more of a driver?

POST 10Original post

Holy crap Glenn!!! Glad you're ok. Shame about the car. At least the car can be replaced!

POST 11Original post

Glad to hear you're okay... Sorry about the car though... Rudy

POST 12Original post

Glen, that sucks!!! What a terribly frightening experience it must have been. I am glad you got out OK!

POST 13Original post

Treat yourself for shock. Sorry to see you got a major problem there. Fires like that might look small or appear to be be mainly smoke BUT as soon as you would of opened the lid with body right there a breeze of fresh air would of passes from the bottom of the car and flamed up being fed with more air. It isn't always fuel causing fires. Saw my catalitic convertors ignite a brake leak one day on a Mark VII Lincoln. Be careful if you ever try chasing a fire in the car especially if you have to pop the hood. Good luck

POST 15Original post

Yikes! You did the right thing - let the insurance company take it from here...very glad you're OK.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 7223063

where did you get it ? was the install fairly easy ?

POST 17Original post

that really sucks but 3rd degree burns or death would suck much more glad your ok, now you can start the task of looking for a replacement

POST 18Original post

WOW! the car can be replaced or fixed but you cannot! lucky you got out in time! sorry to see that happen.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the support guys. I'm OK and there's another p-car in the garage. Its sucks though cause I had restored it (not pristine) but it was in excellent shape with only 80,000 miles on it.

POST 20Original post

Glad you're OK. Makes me want to go make sure I have an extinguisher in my car....and check my fuel lines just in case. That makes the whole IMS thing seem pale in comparison.

Too bad about your Porsche, glad nobody was physically hurt. Glad you have another P car to use ...until you find another older air-cooled to replace the one you lost.

POST 23Original post

Sorry about your car Glenn, but I'm glad you got out safely.

POST 24Original post

Holy crap Glenn! What a shame, but thank god you are both alright. Lets get out for a drink (you could probably use one!) and you can tell me the story....Were you out on the road or was the car at home when this happened? Drop me a line when you get a second.

POST 25Original post

Very sorry to see this. Glad you're ok though.

POST 26Original post

Man, that sucks Glenn especially after the work you put into it. Glad to hear everyone's ok though. Good reminder for eveyone who puts their p away for the winter to at least keep the Comprehensive insurance coverage on the car.

POST 27Original post

It's fixable! I rebuilt a '70 Targa burn just like that in the '90s, believe me it is easier than it looks
