Extended Warranty for 99 996

Hi everybody. I bought a pre-owned (I am the second owner) '99 996 in Sep 2001. The car was actually "in service" since May 1999, so it was one of the earlier roll-outs. Consequently the Porsche 4-year warranty runs out May 2002 (in about a month). Total miles on the car are about 24,000. The car has run perfectly since I bought it (touch wood), but knowing that even minor repairs cost $$'s with these exotics I'd like to purchase an extended warranty. Was wondering if anybody has any success buying an extended warranty from a reputable third-party. The Porsche dealer I bought the car from indicated they could sell me one (he didn't know the exact terms), but urged me to look on-line since third-party extended warranties had become quite common and I would be able to get a competitive rate. The only party I've checked with thus far is Extendedwarranty.com. I surfed their site, checked out their term sheet, and spoke with a customer service rep. Turns out as long as the car -- any car -- has less than 36,000 miles and is inspected to be in good condition, they offer a 7 year/100,000 mile extended warranty for ~$1,500. I'm all for good rates, but this seems to good to be true! To complicate the situation, though, they do seem to be quite legit, and not a fly-by-night operator that will go belly up any minute. Anyways, any thoughts would be appreciated. If you guys have had positive experiences (especially if you've had to use the warranty), please provide me with the appropriate details. Additionally, let me know if any warranties you have are are/were transferrable since that is important for me. Thanks so much. Regards.

Vik, I also just recently bought a '99. I am told that my warranty will be up in approx. 1 year and so I inquired about a warranty for the next 4 years (term of my lease). They wanted $1650 and I think I am going to do it. BTW, it is a 7 year warranty, however it starts from the date of ORIGINAL purchase. The company is Western General.

The two I've examined are WarrantyGold.com and 1sourceautowarranty.com Seemed like WG was a better deal, more covered parts, etc. Read the fine print before you buy anything! Many of the dealer packages are overpriced and very limited (not all, but most). So read them carefully.

Vik, I bought my car (sec. hand)in a Porsche dealer with +1 year guarantee (here in Switzerland)Wich one was build in july `99. Does this service could be possible in a Porsche dealer in USA ? ..just an idea.

I recently purchased an extended warrenty for my 2/98 build 996. My car went into service on 4/98 so not only is my car an early build, it is also out of factory warrenty as of this month. I purchased a 6/60,000 warrenty from Warrenty Direct. They cover pretty much everything and have a list of things they do not cover. I found this much easier than looking at a list of things that are covered. I have not had the need to use the warrenty yet, so I can not comment on their service. Just make sure you read the contract thourghly and consider all the scenarios. It seems like cheap "insurance" for an early build date.

BTW, the party that I had spoken with earlier on was "autoextendwarranty.com" and not "extendedwarranty.com," as I originally indicated. They had sent me their cookie-cutter contract agreement in pdf form. I will try to attach it here shortly for others to browse. Their two-pager details options for warranty life, dedudictible and add-on coverage (for seals, gaskets, etc.), plus they list rather comprehensively what is covered and what is not. I have an extended warranty on my '99 C4 that I purchased from Porsche. While more expensive than 3rd party warranties, its hassle free and will give me no hasle coverage from any porsche dealer.

I to have an 04/98 build 996 C2 coupe. The warranty is up as of 04/15/02. I will purchase an extended warranty from the Porsche dealership, so when I need something fixed, I will be able to say, You sold it to me, fix the car!! Good Luck.

I'm under the impression that Porsche does not have their own extended warranty program. Has anyone actual made a claim on a third party warranty. FDR

Porsche actually does have an extended warranty. It is a one year from date of purchase and costs a bit under a thousand to certify. This cost is before car is brought up to spec maint. wise and repair wise. This warranty can only be had when purchasing a pre-owned Porsche from an authorized Porsche dealer. Good Luck

When I spoke to my dealer about an extended warranty I was told that Porsche does not offer an extended warrenty. The extended warrenty they sold was through a third part, cost a lot more than buying direct myself, and had half the coverage time. It also had a $200 deductable.

Prices on these warrenty are irrelevant if the warren ty doesn't come through when needed so does anyone have experience with a claim on any of these extended warrenties porsche or not?
