They recommend not to mount the harness to the bar, but to go over the bar and mount the harness to the rear seatbelt mounting points.

I have been speaking to Fred Crow at Crow Enterprizes <a href="http://www.crowenterprizes.com" target="_blank">www.crowenterprizes.com</a> and he manufacturers a 6 point cam-lock system using snap hooks and eye-bolts for around $150.-160 a seat, however he does not feel that the eyebolt will work on the inside lap-belt connection because of the tunnel and be suggest bolting the harness over or behind the factory lap belt using the existing bolt or a longer one if needed.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 01 996 Coupe with a harness bar and camera mount and I would like recommendations on a removable harness with the shoulder belts going over the bar and mounted at the rear seatbelt mounting points.

POST 2Original post

I currently have the factory GT3 4 point rollbar with the rear seats removed and the harness bolted to the seatbelt mounting points, draped over crossmember of bar. Works great. The side belts of the 5 point system are on clips, which allow me to remove them while street driving and re-attach for the track. E-mail me for pics of the setup. [email removed]

POST 3Original post

Is there any set-up that allows your to put a harness bar in (without installing a cage)and have a harness and video mount. Maybe something easy to remove after DEs.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I purchased a harness bar and a IoPort camera mount from Stable Energies <a href="http://www.stableenergies.com/stable/shoulder.html" target="_blank">http://www.stableenergies.com/stable/shoulder.html</a>. They recommend not to mount the harness to the bar, but to go over the bar and mount the harness to the rear seatbelt mounting points. The 6-point cam-lock harness system with all the mounting hardware allowing you to un-snap the harness for street driving sells for $269.00 per seat <a href="http://www.stableenergies.com/deist/deist.html" target="_blank">http://www.stableenergies.com/deist/deist.html</a> . I'm looking for any other sytems like that to compare. Fred said he was going to install his harness in his Boxster S this weekend and see what works. Now Brey-Krause manufactures a tunnel side mounting kit <a href="http://www.bkauto.com/r9001.html" target="_blank">http://www.bkauto.com/r9001.html</a> for $65.00 a pair and a Outside Side Seat Belt Mount Kit also selling for $65.00 a pair. If you combine the Crow belts, shoulder pads and the Brey-Krause mounts you are at about $450.00 for both sides. Since Brey-Krause mounts are sold in pairs you will spend about $300.00 for one seat and have extra lap mounts for the passenger side. The Harness bar is $100.00 on top of the Harness cost and the IoPort camera mount is another $90.00 and don't forget shipping and maybe tax depending on where you live. By they way I have a friend that autoX a Miata and he is very pleased with Crow Enterprizes belts. Fred Crow mentioned that the CHP in Cal uses his harness' That's the I have now and any suggestions are welcome. <a href="http://www.bkauto.com/r9001.html" target="_blank">Brey-Krause</a><a href="http://www.stableenergies.com/stable/shoulder.html" target="_blank">Stable Energies</a><a href="http://www.crowenterprizes.com/" target="_blank">Crow Enterprizes</a>

POST 5Original post

C4FDR, that is some great information! If I can't find what works well for me from what you have posted, I'll just go to the stands and watch. What do you think of the BK harness system that is afixed to the harness bar rather then mounting to the mounting points for the existing belts, then over the bar. It is more expensive but it looks like it would be an easier in-and out operation. Do you have any additional knowledge about this? Thanks again for the info!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Which one the harness guide or the harness mount. I beleive the guide still requires the harness to be anchored at the rear seat belt connecting points. I would check with them on Monday. <a href="http://www.bkauto.com/hm1030.html" target="_blank">Harness Mount</a><a href="http://www.bkauto.com/hg1010.html" target="_blank">Harness Guide Bar</a>

POST 7Original post

Sorry.... the harness mount. It seems that you'd only have to remove the mount and the shoulder belts would come out also since they are attached to the bar system itself. With lap belts that clip into the mounts that go next to your factory seat belts, the car would go back to street configuration with little or no evidence of a "DE" configuration. Seems very workable. Am I missing something????? Would it be as easy to remove as I think it is based on their "propaganda"?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Honestly I don't know the differnce in install time. I' going to conact Brey-Krause Monday am and find out. FDR

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Brey-Krause only offers the Harness mount kit for the 996. It requires connection to the strut towers and cutting a slit in the carpet to connect the mount. Looks like a good system. I may go with the Stable Energies harness bar and eye hooks for snap in shoulder harness' along with the Brey-Krause tunnel mount kit. How soon are you planning to add harness' to your car.

POST 10Original post

It won't even be delivered until the end of May. I just want to get the things I'll need lined up before hand. I figure if I pick out what I want and get it bought and shipped, when the car gets here I'll pull the factory cheap seats out, and put in the full leather electrics I'll be getting from my Dad's TT (he put in Recaro buckets). If I have the harness bar and snap in belts, with their required hardware, already on the new seats, it will make the job easier, and a one time deal! So now the question becomes.... what about the GT3 radiator!
