Aparently they install them on new and used Porsche's and do not consider them to be a warranty problem.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

On the discussion group www.funcarsonline.com there are recent threads concerning transmission problems on 996's. I have a B+M short shifter waiting to go into my C2, to be built this month. I am concerned if Porsche Morth America might regard a tranny linkage upgrade as a way out of addressing any transmission issues that may present themselves on a vehicle.
Can anybody shed some light on my concerns with any experience in this regard?
Thanks,

I cannot give you definitive information, but note that a B&M short shifter was installed on an '01 TT with 2000 miles that they were selling used at the largest dealer in area. Aparently they install them on new and used Porsche's and do not consider them to be a warranty problem. I asked my dealer about the Ruf short shift mechanism this weekend and they do not see it as a warranty problem either, although I have had no claims. I have not yeat installed the Ruf device yet, but understand that it can be removed quite easily and returned to stock without any problem. However, my dealer said that any laser diffuser/rardar detector that was remote and not just plugged into the cigarette lighter would void the warranty on electrical/electronic component failure. I am reseraching these questions, but hav not yet waded through all of the warranty booklet, which basically has escape clauses on almost everything imaginable, so it probably will confirm my dealer's position on the detectors.
My .02 worth. My experience with dealers and service shops indicates to me that more important than the actual wording of the warranty is your relationship with the shop or dealership. There are so many exclusions, both on the affected part as well as how it got affected, that it can be pretty tough to actually force them to cover things. On the other hand, I've had warranty work done on things that were very clearly either out of warranty or were not covered. All in an effort to keep my business. I like to point out to these dealerships that my wife loves cars, and that I have several children I have promised to buy cars for when they get old enough.
If you have a decent relationship with your dealer, particularly if you had/have the shifter installed by them, I'd bet my bottom dollar they will honor your warrantee and then some.
