Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

Suggestion
You should have them check all the switches that would disarm the alarm.
Leading evidence: 'Check switches' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check switches' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi folks,
Has anyone had alarm problems with the 996 cab? My car is parked 50% of the time without the benefit of an alarm.
I have one that won't go away and can't be diagnosed (many visits to the dealer). I have concerns about the shop stripping the system (its usually hard to get things back to factory fit afterwards)....I've had convertibles for a long time.
Has anyone ever escalated a problem to Porsche North America or Stuttgart? I suspect that I'm not the only one and the fix is expensive for Porsche.
this site seems to be pretty good at getting to the bottom of things, so any suggestions or contacts in the know would be helpful
If this does not work, I might call it quits and trade car in for Honda
thx much
I had a '99 cab and now have an '02 cab and have never had any alarm problems. I assume you've looked at the likely culprits such as the little "fitments" box between the seats which is connected to the alarm system and the trunk and engine lids closing mechanisims. Also, as I'm sure you know, you can deactivate the infrared motion detector inside the car when you have pets or people locked in side by locking and unlocking the car quickly twice with the key in the door. Maybe there is a problem with this system.
I have '99 coupe but the notorious center console hinch has a switch which if kinked will negate the arming of the system which you will know that when arming it chirps once. You should have them check all the switches that would disarm the alarm. Regards. Mike
FYI - defective center latch mechanism. Apparently a fairly common, expensive problem that dealers don't tell you about unless you make a BIG fuss. Diagnostic tools won't catch it so it take a mechanic a lot of time to isolate.
calling PCNA and setting up a customer service ticket item makes a big deal on how the dealer resolves the issue. much advised practice if you're not getting results.
took 3 days to diagnose and replace.
