I checked with two dealers and without even sitting down to lock horns they said they'd drop a few grand off MSRP for a new C2; I think they'd try to hold for MSRP or very close to it for a C4S.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

$4000 off sticker price, northeast Ohio. However, the car was loaded with options, some of which I think was unpopular. I ended up not getting it, and instead ordered a C4S where I picked and chosemy options.

thanks to everyone for their replies.
i'm surprised recent discounts have not been higher given our new economic circumstances.
i wonder how many people know that the dealer's profit margins exceed $ 10,000 for almost all 911's at msrp? see invoice prices listed on kelly's blue book site.
this means that for all 2002 c2 owners responding the dealer was able to maintain $6-8k profit margins. is anyone else surprised that demand is still that high for the c2?
the prices for used c2's has plunged. why isn't this being mirrored in the new c2's? are we failing to capture a good cross section of the deals being offered?
I know about the $10k profit by the dealer at MSRP.
At Champion in Pompano Beach they have lots of Boxsters but the Carreras are not in excess. I checked with two dealers and without even sitting down to lock horns they said they'd drop a few grand off MSRP for a new C2; I think they'd try to hold for MSRP or very close to it for a C4S.
I guess PCNA has a good handle on supply and demand and can keep prices where they are. Each dealer has an allocation of a certain number of C2, C4S, TT and,
if
they know their market and if a given buyer will not take the C2 at $3k off, then someone else will and they don't have to go any lower. Just my hypothesis.
I think Jim's analysis is correct. When I was shopping for my C2 cab last summer, one of the dealers showed me the monthly allocations for each dealer in the New York metropolitan area. Some dealers get only one or two cars per month; in some months they may get nothing. The dealer I would up buying from got 6 cabs per month; when I was dealing with him at the end of July, he still hadn't sold all of his Sept. allocation and so was willing to deal on the theory that it was better to take a slight discount in order to have the car sold when it came off the boat.
There are better deals to be made than what I saw here. I purchased 2002 996, MSRP $73,030, for only $67,300. Good negotiating helped, and may have been able to do even better. Go to a dealer with a few on the lot and "low -ball" them hard. Let them know your serious and don't be afraid to walk out the door. If there hungry, which I know ALL are, they won't let you walk out the door. Let them know tht if a price can be agreed upon, you'll take the car right then. I bought in South Carolina
GOOD LUCK
