Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Today I was in a Porsche Dealership and I asked them to give me a Trade-in value for my 6 month "old" 2001 Carrera 4 Cab, 5000 miles, guards red with grey softtop, advanced technic package, design package, nav system, natural brown full leather, hardtop, 18" sport design wheel, RoW M030 suspension, stickerprice $104.000. They came up with $72 .000, actually they would give me $74.000 but since the car has a grey softtop, and this is not popular, they can give me only $72.000. The 911 is certainly not a valuable object anymore.:-( cu styx

POST 2Original post

What were you trading it in for? That may have affected the amount. It's always the difference between what you get and what you pay that represents the true value...or lack thereof.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Don, it was my 996 and a 94 911 speedster with 16000 miles on it. Which they want to give me $37.000 for. The trade in was a used 2002 911 turbo for $127.000 with nav system and wooden trim and 400 miles on it. cu styx

Here are some selling prices (in Califormia) to compare with: <a href="http://cgi.calmotorsport.com/~calmotor/cgi-bin/website_view.cgi?view=Inventory" target="_blank">California Motorsports</a>

POST 5Original post

Im sorry to say that I think Porsche know that now the 2002 model is out, which looks so much better, quite a few 996 owners are going to want to swap. And potential purchasers will prefer to wait till more used 2002 are on the market. They could take advantage of this situation. Obviously this will encourage prev 996 to depreciate even more. The 993 level of depreciation is reasonably steady, especially 1996+. I currently think the 2002 will have a better level of depreciation. Might be worth trying to sell the private market.

POST 6Original post

styx, I know the feeling well. My buddy wanted to trade in his 2001 C4 cab and got the same kinda response. Which was funny because the dealer assure him that the C4 cab are hard to find etc etc. Sure right! Good luck anyways.

POST 7Original post

I certainly know how you feel. About a year ago, I received a trade in amount similar to yours for a MY2000 C2. In my perspective and perhaps a few others, what we found is trade in values are typically based on the invoice less 10 to 15% in the first year. In your case, the invoice was probably in the high 80's which leave you somewhere in the mid-70's as a dealer trade. High demand cars (e.g. 996 Turbo) are typically at invoice.

POST 8Original post

I wonder if the depreciation relative to the purchase purchase price is higher the more options are in the car? I mean, the drop in price from what you paid for the car would be less if you bought a base car versus one loaded with options.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You could be right. But than i ask myself, why buy a new car in the first place ? This was certainly my last (new) porsche.:-(

POST 10Original post

I imagine or believe most options are for your enjoyment and generally will not be gotten back in cash (or very little) when you trade your car.

POST 11Original post

The dealer may also be reluctant to trade a desirable (ie new) car on 2 that would be harder the sell. You can always privately sell. Jason
