I'd buy the '01 and swap out the wheels and save another $1500....they are both high performance cars....for your stated use, high miles in three years....

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

can anyone here compare the ride quality and handling characteristics of the 2002 c4s to the narrow body 2001 c4? i frankly like the looks of both cars--perhaps favoring lapis slightly over black. i find the ride quality and handling of the c4s to be superb. i've never driven a narrow body c4. both cars have 18" wheels with p zero rossos. both cars are new with full warranties.
i could save about $10k getting the c4 which is for sale at a dealer about 100 miles away. i can afford eiher car but the thought of saving $10,000 is also very attractive
the c4s i have reserved has not arrived yet. should i bother driving 100 miles to test drive the narrow body c4? how much would i be giving up to save $10k? please help me to
choose! <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
Geez, if cost is no object then get the C4S. Personally, I like the narrow bodied 996's. I don't drive my 02 Cab to the limit and I suspect you don't drive yours to the limit either. Therefore the C4 Cab will cost roughly what the C4S will and you will get more versatility...IMHO
I have a C4 coupe.....read your other posts.....For a daily driver at 25k per year with in town driving.....I don't think the C4S is going to make that big of difference to you over the C4
I'd buy the '01 and swap out the wheels and save another $1500....they are both high performance cars....for your stated use, high miles in three years.... a C4 is great tranportation for less money
One of my partners has a 2001 C4 (seal grey/grey), and I have a 2002 C4S (arctic silver/black). There have been a lot of posts regarding the C4S vs cab vs C2. I like my C4S, and my partner wishes he had waited a year.
As far as handling, ride, etc, there are definite differences, but I doubt that either my partner or I would would be frequently pushing these cars to the extremes where the differences would make a major significance.
As for the cost, there are several things that are standard on a C4S that are optional on a C4.
1. Full leather package $4900.00
2. Turbo look wheels $2290.00
3. Side skirts, turbo-look, etc ????
These are the only things that I saw the one time we compared the cars side by side. There may be other differences. He has been hiding his car from me since
Admittedly, the prices I am quoting are MSRP for the 2002 C2 options, and I have no idea what options are already in the C4 that you are looking at aside from the 18" wheels.
If you like them both, but just can't disregard the $10k, then look at the list of options/items that are already in either car, and total them up and see if there really is a savings.
Then, there is resale value. But, that may be a whole other post.
Asthetically, I am partial to the wide-body look of my 02 C4S vs. the 01 C4. From a performance perspective, I take comfort in the fact that what I have purchased is essentially a factory turbo set-up (wheels, brakes, suspension and aerodynamics), albeit without the turbo motor. With the 02 C4S, however, you are getting 20 extra hp as well as more torque vs. the 01 C4. The C4S represents Porsche's latest engineering advances, and I believe that is worth a few extra thousand.
Igancio,
First--
I went through the same thing with the My 02 C4 Cab/Tip we recently picked up (02 vs. 01)
You are getting TAKEN by some dealer offering ONLY a $10K difference in price from a MY02 vs. MY01. <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" /> In my search, I found equally loaded 01's for $75k or the 02' for $98k.
Second--
On the buy side, my "thought savings" were $25K, but the depreciation was the same. If you can afford the front-end, and be no worse off on the back-end, why not go new? Especially on a lease where the 02 will carry a higher residual.
Just my thoughts. I agree with palting and T. Good luck, <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

thanks for all the advice. i've decided to go with the c4s pending a test drive to judge ride quality. would't it be great if all decisions could be like this? <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />
I personally think the extra $10K would be very wisely invested. Someday you are going to sell the car and then a buyer will be looking at one that is a model year newer and has all the enhancements that came with the 2002 model year. Plus, certainly the C4S will be more desirable in the resale marketplace than the "regular" body as it seems to be today.
