Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I finally got around to the Garage Door Hack. Great details via Orient Express again LINK (need to be member) Switch from the nice folks at Suncoat Motorsports, part number 99661311910A05. The inside connectors are switched, while the outer are for the internal switch light. Helps to have a DVM around . . . Rather than remove my dash horseshoe (and risk cracking the wood veneer) I mounted as shown. Access is really easy, just pull out the ashtray and then remove the two torx screws. If you want the switch to light, just tap into the ashtray light. Here is the final: There is a lot of room in the console, so I just wrapped the opener in foam and stuffed it in. Also, since there is not too much metal in that position, the opener range seems to be great. Just one comment: I am pretty handy, but I have to say the electrical connection plugs and jacks in my 996 are somewhat an IQ test and I think I am failing. Oh well, I have not broken any yet, either

POST 2Original post

Well done, Jon. Isn't it nice not to have the ugly door opener hanging from you sun visor?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6536220

thanks! I used to have it mounted with Velcro down by the fuse panel--pretty easy reach--but this is a lot better!

POST 4Original post

and you have a spare "blank" spot open for the passenger eject button mod Way to go !

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6536645

Was thinking more of a passenger mute button . . .

POST 7Original post

Nice placement in the unused button holes in the center console. One note, the higher up in the car you mount the transmitter, the better range. This is why I have my transmitter in the A pillar. Pulling off the interior A pillar cover is not hard at all, and for the increased range, it is worth it.

POST 8Original post

I left my homelink module in the space under the Nav/radio. I used the homelink module because I did not want to have to take thing apart to replace a battery. I have good range and all the power I needed was right there. I forgot what switch I use for the switch lighting but is was easy to do too. Just make sure you buy the rolling code homelink. Great mod.

POST 9Original post

I did this mod... then my battery died and had to get the xmitter out again. Now I just keep the xmitter in the glovebox.... hardwired power would be better for this mod.

I received this as a gift (for my motorcycle) and decided I'd rather have it in my car. This actually works very well, it's just as seamless, maybe not quite as cool, but it's also battery-free. Flip the High-beams twice - right at your fingertips... et viola! Flash 2 Pass Website Probably took me about an hour start to finish - and it's easily reversed.

POST 11Original post

One of the things I left out of my DIY, was before you button things up, be sure to put in a fresh battery. I am going on over 4 years now on the original battery that I put in back in early 2005.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, batteries in the new transmitters can easily last 5 years. A lot better than the older transmitters I used to have. I will say the center console offers a really easy access if the battery does run out. These are fun little projects--like hardwiring the V1. Not expensive, low risk, etc.

POST 13Original post

Very nice job, but I still like my Flash2Pass better. No buttons, etc. just flash the headlights twice and the door opens.

POST 14Original post

I just clipped my remote over the edge of the drivers door storage compartment. The unit is hidden inside and the metal clip barely shows on the outside. I have not had a problem with range. I just lift the storage cover press and shut. I do like the idea of flashing headlights. I will check out the Flash2Pass.

POST 15Original post

I use this attached to the key - even has a flashlight and range is OK. http://genieremotesonline.com/AD-02-016.html

POST 16Original post

Where can you buy the Homelink module just by itself? I have an 30 year old garage door and universals don't work for me. The only thing that has been able to work is my Homelink in my Grand and my wife's accord. I only have 1 transmitter so right now I'm using that in the Pcar but would love to have something more elegant than my 30 year old transmitter (which is the size of a cassette tape). Thanks in advance,

POST 17Original post

a universal should work... the garage door opener use a dry contact to open/close the door no? if it use a dry contact... a universal should def work. BTW... if you have a pushbutton on your wall to open/close the door... it is a dry contact.

Don't need to worry about any of that with the Flash2Pass....

Here's one - not sure it's what you're looking for - http://cgi.ebay.com/JOHNSON-CONTROLS...QQcmdZViewItem Also, the Genie mini I referenced earlier is no bigger than the Porsche key.

POST 20Original post

I have a Genie Garage door opener but it does not use a Genie remote. I'm not sure what is is as it just says ESP on it. This thing was installed in 1978 but the remotes I guess where installed later. Unfortunately, I've tried several universals including the Genie brand and none of them can learn my old remote with the exception of the homelink. $200+ for the homelink in ebay is a bit steep. I'll keep my eye out for one that is cheaper Flash to pass is interesting (just did a search).

POST 21Original post

Just search ebay for a homelink module. They pull them out of all types of cars. The one I used came from a Chrylser vehicle. Who cares what it looks like. You will hide it anyways. What you should look for is one out of the same type of car that works for your opener now.

POST 22Original post

Thanks for the tips. Hopefully, I can find one out of a Jeep or Honda then.

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 6541523

you need something like this... the receiver is wired to your garage door opener. It is wired in parallel to your garage door open/close pushbutton on your wall. The receiver acts like the pushbutton when the transmitter is pressed. You can buy something similar in sears... that you plug the receiver in a wall outlet. http://www.northshorecommercialdoor....doopgire1.html

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 6543684

OR..... you can just install a flash2pass for $70. Okay, I'll stop my plugging for that solution.... but it comes with the receiver that replaces your pushbutton in the garage, so it doesn't matter what garage door opener you have. I gotta say, adding a new button is cool, but the stealthiness of just blinking your high beams is also way cool.

But what happens if you "flash" someone on the highway. Does this cause their hood to open up?

POST 26Original post

I would contact Marwest Access Controls ( www.aaaremotes.com ) and tell them what you're looking for. They should be able to help you get rid of your big clunky remote.

When I flash someone, they're eyes usually bug out.... I'm not sure why though.

Just remember Jeep=Chrysler. Might see if the owners manual for you car that works now say the homelink is rolling code capiple. If is then you need to find a homelink this is too. Otherwise make sure it is NOT rolling code capable.
