Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I changed my oil every 5K miles with Mobil1 and it went 43K miles with no problems, leaks, etc....now I'm in an '02 and will follow the same procedure.

Well, after a long research and deliberation process, (used 993 vs used 996, C4S vs C2S) I have finally taken delivery of a new 2002 C2.

I'm following the same practice with my '02 cab which now has 7k miles, although it has used more oil than the '99.

Suggestion
I confess I dont' understand the penchant for changing oil so much more frequently than the recommended 15k periods.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, after a long research and deliberation process, (used 993 vs used 996, C4S vs C2S) I have finally taken delivery of a new 2002 C2. Equipment list as follows: Artic Silver/Metropole, Adv. Tech Pkg., PSM, 18" Carrera's (w/ Conti Sport Contact2's), Comfort Pkg., Heated seats, Wheel caps w/crests, mats.
I didn't opt for the dealer paint protectant, upholstry treatment, or Rhino Bed liner. Just kidding.
So far after one day, I am extremely pleased with my purchase. But after driving mostly in our NW rain, I haven't even pushed the car anywhere near the limit. BTW, the purchase from Roger Jobs Porsche in Bellingham, WA was flawless, easy and worth the trip.
I'm seeking advice from other owners of similar late model 996's, and would appreciate comments on any of the following topics:
Oil change duration? (not scheduled until 15K, but I'm planning on 3K and thereon)
Aftermarket enhancements? (B&M short shift, lip spoiler protection bar)
I plan on getting Stone Guard applied to the front end a.s.a.p.
Any suggestions and comments would be welcome!
Welcome to the group!
Post pics when you can, we're all very nosey about what everyone else is driving.
My experience has been good with the 996's. I changed my oil every 5K miles with Mobil1 and it went 43K miles with no problems, leaks, etc....now I'm in an '02 and will follow the same procedure.
I had the B&M short shifter, but from what I've read here, the RUF may be the way to go and a heckuva lot easier to install.
Can't tell you anything about the stonegard....I will be a customer to that in the next couple of weeks.
You may want to join your local PCA or SCCA and take part in some driving event to increase your skill (I have no idea what your skill is...you could be an F1 driver for all I know
)
Enjoy your car!!

I agree with 5K oil change. Also decided to have oil analyzed at 5K...just to find out what, if anything, is in the oil...antifreeze,water,metal shavings, whatever. I think it's worth it to find out.
Also put Fabspeed mufflers on my 02Cab and they sound great.

I confess I dont' understand the penchant for changing oil so much more frequently than the recommended 15k periods. I had a '99 cab that was a daily driver; I followed the manual on oil changes and I never even needed to add oil between changes until 41k mi. The car had 55k miles when I traded it in and I never had any problems with it oil leakage or otherwise. I'm following the same practice with my '02 cab which now has 7k miles, although it has used more oil than the '99.
Oil changes at each annual service (less than 15,000 miles, but more than 5,000) - I use a "bra" (my wife prefer leather shield) only during the winter to protect against salt on the roads - I haven't experienced any problems without it during the rest of the year (but then I don't drive on dirt roads).
Good luck - its a GREAT car.
re: changing oil every 5K miles; I think it is more self satisfying than anything else....probably on the overdone side, but hey, oil is cheap and it looks good to any prospective buyers. Just personal, I guess.

Thanks to everyone for their timely replys. Looks like I'll pursue the following:
--Mobile One changed every 3K miles
--I've got an appointment for Stone Gard at the end of this month.
--I'm planning on attending the Porsche Driving Experience this Fall at Road Atlanta. Back in my youth I raced SCCA and autocrossed, but years of letting "work" get in the way has dulled my techniques I'm sure. I was pleased to note that the cars they track for the PDE are virtually identical to my new C2.
