Suggestion

The 996's system is also the 3rd (964 and 993) generation (4th if you include the 959), so it's not like it was their first attempt and the major design change happened from the 964 to the 993.

Suggestion

If you, instead, know how to use the additional traction to your advantage and are aware of where the under steer kicks in, it has some distinct advantages over the normal RWD car but also has some distinct disadvantages too.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I took a few foggy morning pics today and to my surprise at noon the view outside is still the same.

POST 2Original post

The more important question is why is your Porsche outside in the fog?

POST 3Original post

Thats the strangest looking front end I ever saw. How does it suck in air to cool the rads?

She's a DD however has not been on the road this week. I just took her out for the pics.

It's the stock front end so you may have to consult PCNA for that answer.

POST 6Original post

I agree, very odd day - fog on and off all day - nice pic! I drove mine today too - in the fog....

I think it's just an illusion - he blocked out his plate, and the normal openings are there, just obscured by the fog and the dark color of the car.

Are you saying C2s aren't good for fog or Carreras in general.. I mean, what do you think the "4" is for on your C4?

Thanks. I need to run to Lowes this morning but this fog is back yet again. I'm hoping to get the top down later today.

That's a joke right?

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 10040970

The "4" is an extra $10,000.00 in Porsche's bank account and NOT very much else. You need a late model 997 before you get a somewhat functional "4" for that TEN GRAND.

Is this a bad attempt at a joke or do you just not know anything about Porsche's AWD system? First of all, the AWD system in the 996 is not just a status symbol as you imply. It is a very capable system and does it's job exceptionally well. Secondly, like most things, while subsequent generations have continued to improve it, the 997's version was about minor changes (just like the rest of the car) and not something revolutionary. So we are only talking about fractions of a second improvements in detecting traction differences and transferring the power. The 996's system is also the 3rd (964 and 993) generation (4th if you include the 959), so it's not like it was their first attempt and the major design change happened from the 964 to the 993. If you utilize the AWD system for the purposes it was built, it shows itself as a very good system and is on par with the Quattro (the real one, not the Haldex POS that is in most of the Audis today) and xDrive systems in the realm of performance focused AWD systems. If you don't understand the purpose of such a system and instead try to drive it like a RWD car, you will be sorely disappointed. If you, instead, know how to use the additional traction to your advantage and are aware of where the under steer kicks in, it has some distinct advantages over the normal RWD car but also has some distinct disadvantages too. Porsche does not take the system lightly either (or think of it as simply a cash cow) as they put the AWD cars through additional environmental and performance tests that the RWD cars don't see. Raise them and add the under carriage guards and they are quite capable and competitive in off road courses.
