This is not a probability of success.

I was told if the dealer does the repair they will not replace the $40 part instead they will replace the whole steering lock mechanism.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know this is the 996 forum, but it appears to have more foot traffic than the 986 forum. My father has a 2000 Boxster S Tiptronic. He is suffering from the common Key is stuck in the ignition syndrome. I have been told that normally the electronic switch is to blame for this failure and is about $40 for the Porsche brand part. I was told if the dealer does the repair they will not replace the $40 part instead they will replace the whole steering lock mechanism. $$$$$. Besides Auto's of Europe, does anyone know of a good independent Porsche shop in St. Louis Area? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Reidd Vann is a good option. They are located on Manchester near parktown. Did you have a bad experience at Autos of Europe? Not affiliated with them other than having considering them for common maintenance.
