I lowered it, put wheels on (11x19), changed side markers, tinted, changed all filters and placed K&N instead and bypassed muffler.

That is some luck but being smart and having a skills set definitely suits this car.

That night I did my research and set my goal to purchase a Porsche by next year.

I decided that was a bad plan....missing barrels using LUCK so I decided to come back with some humility and an open mind to learn a better approach
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey! Im new to Rennlist. I just wanted to introduce myself to you guys. Im a young buck with just an age of 22. Bought my 1999 996 with 39K miles a few months back from NY. I Live in Midwest and I love Porsches.
Welcome from an old dog. Had my first 911 at the ripe old age of 20. Other items of interest came along so I cashed that one in but it is still in the family and owned by a cousin of mine. It then took marriage, three kids, and 30 years to achieve the "someday I'll have another" (that day was a little over five years ago) and it was certainly worth the wait.
Enjoy!
Yes, I'd say I am pretty lucky to have one. Looking back I'd never thought I would actually own a Porsche but I do.
Heres the story behind this Porsche. Last year, one evening I was in NY with a couple of my buddies eating out at a restaurant. We finished eating and after we walked to our cars, right by my car was parked a black Porsche 997 on wheels. It was so beautiful, that night I told my buddies that im going to buy a Porsche. They laughed. That night I did my research and set my goal to purchase a Porsche by next year.
8 months pass I started looking for the one. After 3 months of emailing, calling I found this beautiful Porsche. It was a one owner, low miles, Manual, coupe all what I wanted so I bought it. I bought it from a doctor that owned it from age 51 he took good care of it. After I bought it he stated that only 3 people drove that car. Him, his daughters husband, and a friend of his. The first drive was the best, seriously!
beautiful - you are lucky!!
let me tell you about luck though: (my luck...I am not suggesting you are ONLY lucky)
My first Porsche I thought I was a pretty good driver. I went to a "skills day" and found myself a little cautious, trying to get a feel for things, it was OK...so i decided to go again and "really drive the car"
I spun my car and missed a 55 gallon barrel while spinning on the side of the track by LUCK, and only by luck
I decided that was a bad plan....missing barrels using LUCK so I decided to come back with some humility and an open mind to learn a better approach
In 5 years I have gone to about every Skills day that has been offered and stepped up to DE's - this year I went to about 16 DE's and 8 Skills days - obviously not everyone wants to invest this much time in having a good time....but getting out and learning at slow speed events with an instructor and moving to high speed events can be very rewarding - I would highly recommend at least a couple of track days to figure out what makes a Porsche different than other cars you may have driven
It will NOT harm the car and it will help you even if you dont get "hooked" - I took my niece (17) this year and she picked up a LOT in a single day - she took her Toyota Corolla - (low speed event)
Being smart and having a skills set that matches this car is a wonderful thing
Nice Car and consider yourself very lucky at your age.
Of course you're probably gonna do a fair bit of stupid stuff like we've all done at some point in our lives but you definitely owe it to yourself to go for some DE events so you can gauge the upper limits of your skill and the car on a private course rather than in a public setting. The 911's are one of those cars that are sometimes scary to drive at the limit.
Also at your age, you better be using that as a tool to pickup chicks too. LOL.j/k(sorta)
911's weren't really cheap or available when I was your age and had to settle for an affordable mid-engined car, Fiero GT - Yeah Baby!!!
Anywho Congrats and expect people to ask you about your "Dad's" car. LOL
Thanks, Frisbee91!
@ivangene. Wow! That is some luck but being smart and having a skills set definitely suits this car.
Yes, you guys are right I already have done some pretty dumb stuff. Hit 171mph on an old highway but I think Im passing that stage slowly. Gotta say I love porsches.
I would love to attend a DE event sometime. Anyone know when the next DE event is going to take place?
P.S.
Anyone else going to the Porsche escape in Eureka springs, AR on Nov. 8,9, 10, 11?
Thanks, ECS. Well when I first bought this car it was stock to bone. I lowered it, put wheels on (11x19), changed side markers, tinted, changed all filters and placed K&N instead and bypassed muffler.
Future modifications is a possibility.
