Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car finally arrived via enclosed carrier. The car is better than I expected. Not a scratch on it and great interior. I must have gotten one of the good engines because it is extremely quite with no chain or valvetrain noise, etc. Runs and drives great. I have done the following: 1.Changed air filter 2.cabin filter 3.cleaned throttle body (this tip works great, thank you) The engine oil is draining as I type this. I have the full set of owners manuals but it does not address much info about some of the fluids. Everything says buy from your local Porsche dealer. Can someone give acceptable fluids available locally? I have the DOT4 brake fluid but need to decide on: Manual trans oil Front Diff oil Clutch fluid Thanks again, and the car was worth the wait.

POST 2Original post

If you have brake fluid you already have your clutch fluid... they are the same resevoir. The diff fluids are a bit of mystery to me and I have not changed mine yet, but do a search as there are some threads on it... besides being GL5 grade 75W-90 synthetic, I'm not for certain brands porsche recommends off top of my head.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I read the brake flush info over at renntech.org but the clutch part was a little unclear. Thank you for clearing that up.

Latest info I have -- a print out of the drivetrain approved oils list a tech gave me a while back -- is the manual/diff fluid approved for these cars was Mobilube 75w-90 or Shell Transaxle same viscosity. Porsche states these are miscibile so no need to worry which one you end up with *if* you are sure the fluid is OE. If you join Renntech.org you would have access to a current list of engine and drivetrain fluids approved for these cars. Sincerely, Macster.

POST 6Original post

For diff intel, go to the 40th AE Registry thread post #149... some links Balefire provided to answer some of these questions. Tell us what you decide to use when you make up your mind so others can leverage.

POST 7Original post

I don't know what is local for you but the manual transmission oil I use is part number 999-917-546-00, available through Suncoast. http://www.suncoastparts.com/product..._Code=996Trans I ordered 3 liters and had enough for the job.

POST 8Original post

Nice to see you are already bonding with your new Porsche KrazyK.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mac, I am a member over at Renntech.org and printed all the 996 maint. DIY. Great info. I will post pictures as soon as I put the wheels back on and get the car back on the ground. The black car is a fingerprint magnet. It needs a good cleaning just from me working on it. I am really amazed at how smooth and quite the engine idles and runs. I think Hans was right about the engine. It seems well taken care of, has no leaks and is very clean. Took it out last night and everywhere I stopped it got stares and comments. These cars are beautiful in person.
