Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
74 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

MAmazing what people will say when you park your badas 10 year old new to you 28k pcar.....wow business must be very good.....you must be getting rich doing what you do....at 55, we put our kids through as much schooling as they wanted, got them off in the big dangerous wold, we go out and buy our fun weekend and going to dinner car, we work in ou own business and hard at it, and all cay long you see hear mostly snide remarks from those too stupid to get it....love our car, they will just have to get over it.
Yea the general public can not tell the difference between a 996 and a 991. I heard the roads in Badas were in bad shape and dangerous. No place for a P car.
Badas Islands is a group of islands in the Tudjuh Archipelago in the South China Sea between the Malayasian mainland to the west and the island of Borneo to the east. Administratively it is part of the Riau Islands province of Indonesia.
The Badas Islands are located between 030'N and 039'N latitude, and between 10658'E and 10712'E longitude. They are 56 km southwest of the Tambelan archipelago, and lie outside the usual shipping lanes. The southwesternmost island of the group is Anakawur Island (Pulau Anakawur) (033'N., 10659'E.) which rises to 94 m and has a sandy beach on its southwestern side, but otherwise has a rugged coastline. Pejamu Island (Pulau Pejamu) which lies 17 km eastsoutheast of Anakawur, is densely forested and rises to 42 m. There is a sandy beach on its east side.
We own cool cars. No doubt. Don't let it go to your head. Hey Mark, do the Badas Islands have naked native girls that can bring me a cocktail in a coconut?
That's really all that matters.
What the hell is a big dangerous wold (I think we know what its suppose to be, I thought we had spell check) its his 2nd post & he's from TEXAS (I could understand if he was from uganda) Is this the same Hacker that was on the 964 forum last week? One week you get somebody sending you emails wanting you to post a pic of your car & wheels & next there's a hacker on the 964 forum & now this! What the crap is going on! My Bad, I just checked he's an addict not a user?
I know there is another thread on the subject that the OP is lamenting about. I'm still amazed at the negativity from casual friends, etc. "things must be nice..." etc.
Being from Houston, all I can say is every big city has a few...
OP... Don't mind the ribbing. Just realize that your in the middle of the pack on this board.
Welcome to the club. Enjoy your car.
Post pics and give us a description or it didn't happen.
I usually note that people who are the most impressed/intimidated/annoyed/curious/stunned/effusive or personally affronted that someone apparently would spend that much on a car... Paid more for their beige minivan than I did for my Carerra.
I win!
this is one of the funniest threads Ive seen in a while
Pete - dont go ruining it by posting pics --- of girl - from islands - with coconuts - serving - OH GAWD POST THEM!!
You are right, people see our cars and think we are super rich. I have a 2002 Carrera 4S, paid less than most people spend on their new SUVs & pickups. I was getting gas a few weeks ago and a guy across from me said "Wow, nice car. It must be nice to be rich!" I just looked at him with a straight face and said "It is."
The initial post was quite odd, but I understand and agree with the sentiment.
A friend of mine had furniture delivered to his house and the delivery men walked through the garage where his 996 was parked. As the walked by the car carrying a piece of furniture, one of them said to his coworker: "Be careful! That's a $150,000 car and you don't want to scratch it!".
I have stopped attempting to explain that I don't have $200,00 worth of cars in my garage. Now when people ask what I do for a living, I just smile and say I have an average job and do alright and give them a smile.
When I get the remark along the lines of "must be nice to be rich" I respond with a yes, it's not bad.
Best was a young guy at work all proud of his brand new Elantra - fully loaded and really looks to be a nice car. When he was bragging about the great deal he struck I pointed to the C2 and said, that's a shame, for two grand more you could have bought that. His mouth dropped and he said "no, really"? I said, "yes really". He felt better after I explained that he could have bought a car like my C2, but affording to keep it was a different story. I told him the cost of one proper rear tire and he instantly felt better.
And the kid don't spell too good needer.
It still doesnt make any sence. He isnt say in "in Badas" and he didnt capitalize "dadas" I thought it was a mistake but he did it twice. And the dude is in Texas.

Welcome newbie.
We can be tough on guys like you. We expect an introduction on your first post, and very important is proper spelling and grammar as you may have figured out by now.
Also, no one here even believes you own a Porsche as you have not posted pictures.
Who would ever have thought this thread would have lasted this long to start with! As for the OP, yeah the guys have NOT been very harsh, they've just had a lil' fun with it! You'll KNOW when they're NOT having fun anymore (but it would probably be best if you post a few pics soon)! jmo
LOL - I've been right here..just on another site more...........
I had a 996 and spent a lot of time here, sold it and bought a 3.2 Carrera - RL is not a good 911 forum, so I switched to another place....but I stop in from time to time to spice up the place and bring my own flavor of banter/sarcasm mixed with laughter and a lot of poking fun (mostly at myself)
I almost never fight and if i make people mad / upset I normally apologize because I just like to have fun and not fight -
I got tired of all the same ole IMS questions here and fought a long time to "help" people but in the end just let it die as I now have a much different car and those days are way behind me.
jdjones - sorry if I freaked you out a little - was just playin with ya.... really - you seem like a nice fella and if I caught you off guard i am sorry...I meant no harm
HI BIG JOHN !!
we are cleaning the highway out your way again soon...dont run us over - AGAIN!!
Ed, thats pretty much where I've been too (on another forum, just not Porsche) I remember talking with you several years back, when I disappeared I didn't know you did too! I never really posted much anyway (not like you 1000000+ & counting) so nobody never missed me! Lol!
If you define "rich" as having everything you want, then you're rich. I know that this definition fits me, so I'd say that I'm rich.
I'd also guess that by definition, most of us are rich. What do you guys think?
I get the same thing all of the time..."I'm in the wrong business", or "business must be good". All of which come from people driving drastically less exciting or pleasurable vehichles, that cost them a hell of a lot more than mine did! Sometimes I almost feel like saying I'll trade you vehicles title for title. Then I'll take their 2yr. old, loaded full size truck and step up from a my 2000 Cab. to a Turbo Cab. with no out of pocket expense on my part! If they only knew.
Hey Ed, I saw a recent photo of the hair you just chopped off...wait, or was that just a photo of the "clag" from your most recent track day?
I daily-drive a 23-year old (real) Porsche and get the same comments about Nice Car, Must Be Nice To Be Rich.
Sorry guys, I stumbled across this thread and had to have some fun. My best buddy drives one of those water-pumpers. They are all schweet cars, all 911's.
My standard answer to most people who make the "must be nice to be rich" comments is that my car cost me less (to buy....) than almost every other car in the parking lot at work.
(retreating to the 964 forum....)
Have Fun, Be Safe
Darrell,
I get the same thing at work. I switched careers several years ago and am now a math teacher. I can see my car from my room and when I bring it the students always comment, but I come back with, ".....look at that car, that car....etc. Mine was less expensive." Although mine sticks out more because it's speed yellow.
Did you win? Perhaps they don't care about sporty driving and the minivan suits their needs better? Honestly this, "I have a porsche, i'm so much smarter/cooler/better" is so lame. Maybe the guy likes his minivan. Sure, he probably didn't realize he could get a 996 for minivan money, but if he was really interested, it takes all of about 2 seconds to look on google/autotrader/ebay, and find that out.
wow, way to **** in the guy's cheerios. Maybe he doesn't want an 8 year old 911...not everyone does.
This is like those extreme couponing shows that are on TV now.
Everyone is real impressed with the lady who got $600 of groceries for $12 by using 231 coupons. But, do you really want to be her? Do you want to spend your spare time sorting coupons? Do you want to eat Ragu on pasta every night?
To each their own.
But most people didn't dream about couponing as a kid. Apparently, lots people dreamed about the balance I have now: A wife, two kids, nicely finished home, an econobox and a Porsche.
Yeah, my MIL thinks I'm driving a $100k+ car. Sometimes I tell people how far off they are on the estimates of the value of a 996, but I never tell my MIL--I know it bugs her and that makes me chuckle.
The other day a guy pulled the old "Must be nice..." while getting out of his brand new loaded Toyota 4Runner Limited, which had to cost over $40k. I LOLed.
i just tell the folks at work that i dont need to work and only come in to keep myself busy...wanna see someone hate you with their look thats a good way to do it!
[QUOTE=DWS964;9939052]I daily-drive a 23-year old (real) Porsche and get the same comments about Nice Car, Must Be Nice To Be Rich.

So I'm thinking of dating this 23 year old hot number. Ridiculously sexy and something I've always wanted to do. But work and responsibilities always got in the way. Now that I'm older and unencumbered, I can enjoy one of my bucket list items. I've always admired them from afar and when I see others go past with one, I'm wistfully thinking of the day when that will happen to me. Well that time is now, and I have been shopping around for a good one. It's amazing the inventory of them once you start looking.
I'm sure this is irrational, since I hear maintenance of them is outrageously expensive. Apparently shoes last only a few weeks and the name brand replacements are looney tunes in price. The ongoing food is also expensive since I can't just feed her Mcdonald's fare. They often have to be taken to the various shops for expensive cosmetic fixes. The worst part of it is that the 23 year olds are very fickle. Sometimes she's great, sometimes she's just cranky and temperamental. It's amusing when I gather with my other pals who've taken the plunge, (some with older models), and compare notes. We all agree, they are great when all cleaned up and dressed, but lots of maintenance. Many of them found it necessary to have extensive after-market mods and enhancements on their models. Still, the admiring glances of others is often enough to justify the experience and I will enjoy it while I'm able.
That never bothers me. Being accused of being rich is another story.
Often strangers say they wish they could afford a car like mine while smoking a cigarette. I tell them I wish I could afford to smoke!
[quote=tcc;9948877]
Yeah, not to mention the fact that the 23 YO models have the classic round and toned headlights, whereas our newer models have droopy headlights. I cannot for the life of me figure this out - it defies the laws of physics.
Dichen Lachman is from Nepal
she's hot though for sure
There are plenty of hot Indonesia girls although not a ton famous outside of Indo. Kristin Kreuk is half Chinese/Indo... that counts I think!
