There are a bunch of options if you want to replace the components, but from what I have heard and read, the Fister-D mod has the most bang-for-buck!

I ran them for (road use) last summer but living downtown it's just to damn loud, they don't sound that good at low rpm's but anything over 2500 it's the bomb!

If I used my car more I would only use them for the track.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, I would like to replace my stock exhaust and I saw that Fabspeed are selling a muffler bypass kit.
Can you tell me more about bypassing the mufflers, what the sound look like and does light up the engine light.
Any feedback will be helpfull.
Thanks
Sylvain
by-pass = very loud
Major drone inside car, you will get a headache and IMO hearing loss
sounds like a tractor outside
no engine light issues.....
did you get the feeling I didnt like them?
whats the car used for, what are you trying to get out of it.... we will suggest something.....
Hey Sylvain,
The muffler bypass pipes are very loud, aggressive and definitely make a statement!

I ended up putting a 200 cell cat, header and sports exhaust package on mine.
I was going to use mine for track days but it doesn't look like I'll have much time for that this summer, if you're interested I'll sell you mine for a 150,- bucks but I don't know if the C4S bypass pipes fit on your's.
Cheers,
Sid.
Ps. there is no check engine light since your C02 censors are located before the muffler.
Hey Sylvain,
I have a 2003 C4S and I have the muffler By-Pass on my car. I dirve it on the street and do DE events. That was the main reason I got them. They are very loud especially on the street. They really make a statement and you will not be sneaking in or out. If I used my car more I would only use them for the track.
Sylvain,
Another Fabspeed muffler by-pass user. I actually enjoy the noise they make and prefer the sound but then again..thats my taste. One thing I have noticed is that you loose the torque in the low gears.
Speaking of loosing torque. I'm not sure who's headers I saw but one manuafcturer is using a reverse taper of going small at the head to wider at the cat connection. For a mix of low and high end its best to go from wider to smaller taper. I'm hoping these guys manufacturing headers have put some good research into what they are producing keeping exit temps near factory so it wont be warping or burning vavles.
Sylvain,
I have the Fabspeed muffler bypass and I love the sound! It is probably the best mod I have done. I have driven only on the street and I get a lot of compliments. With an engine that sounds this good, why put earmuffs on it.
There's a
big
difference in price though!
$4000,- + for cats/mufflers/headers whereas the bypass pipes are only $300,- .
But in the end you get what you pay for...
sorry to dredge up an old thread. I just got a set of fabspeed muffler bypass pipes and i was really expecting something exceptional for $300. I could go to any mom and pop muffler shop and get the exact thing bent for $30. I feel liked i was tricked.
If you purchased these for $300 then you bought them used as new Fabspeed bypass pipes are about $550 IIRC. Why not resell them and then go to your mom and pop muffler shop to buy replacements?
Fabspeed makes great pruducts but in the end these are simply exhaust pipes not mufflers, etc. I'm not quite sure what you were expecting.
So for those in the know, what are some exhaust options and pros/cons of each? I'm looking to make my car sound less like a vacuum cleaner as well, but am not looking for a huge performance boost, nor do I want something so loud that the neighbors are annoyed.
The Fister-D mod is a very popular one, and cheap too. You end up getting a pair of modified mufflers that somehow sound a million times better than the stock ones!
I am sure there is noone who has had one fit to their car and regretted it. (They cost $250 with exchange + shipping)
A slightly more expensive option is to fit sport mufflers from Fabspeed. I have the MAXFLO muffler system on my car and its sounds brilliant. I am frequent visitor to the 6000revs range now. But these are a bit pricey.
There are a bunch of options if you want to replace the components, but from what I have heard and read, the Fister-D mod has the most bang-for-buck!
Had my bypass pipes on for over a year and a half. I love them. Have no issues with cops or the neighbors since I can control my foot in those areas. Also, mine were not Fabspeed, I think I paid $75 for them used. I noticed zero increase or decrease in performance with them. Personally, I love the sound. They are not for everyone though. I do still have my stock exhaust in the garage though.
