Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's happened twice within the past two weeks. I exit the car with keys in my hand (all windows in the closed position), and when I firmly close (not slam) the driver's door, the window immediately descends about 8 inches (!) instead of closing upward for the final 1/2 inch. What kind of gremlin is this? Full disclosure: the only other anomally for this window is that the motor+regulator raises the window kind of slowly. Its been that way for a couple of years now. Note: It's a '09 996 cabrio. relinuca

POST 2Original post

I had this happen to me once last week. I closed and locked my 996 cab and walked away. I'm sure the windows were up. Came back a few hours later, and the drivers window was down about 8". It may have happened as I closed the door, but I can't be sure. I have been unable to replicate it, however. Also, I assume you mean you have a '99 996? It just looks like an '09

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yep, it's a '99. ('09? I wish...and make it a GT3, please!) relinuca

POST 4Original post

1) Disconnect and wait 30 seconds, reconnect battery to reset system. 2) Re-learn the up and down window cycle (hold button for 5 seconds at top and bottom of travel) 3) More than likely - the window regulator is going bad or the microswitch on the door handle is going bad. Many threads on here and RennTech forum about the same problem and solutions.

POST 5Original post

Always make sure that your battery is fully charged. Strange things happen with these cars on low battery. Put your battery on a 12 hour charge then try again and see do things work. Mines a 99 cabrio.

Actually, for me, when I run into this problem (about 3 times in 6 months on an '04 911 TTx50), I just do #2. Has worked all the time. No need to disconnect the battery. Just sit in the car, turn it off and then key position on, and hold the window at full up for 20 seconds and then full down at 20 seconds or visa versa. Should work.
