Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A Friend bought a 996 from a widower and has decided to return his car to stock. There was no info on the header but to me it seems like a quality piece. This doesn't appear to be one of those cheap ebay headers and here's why: There were no sloppy welds and smooth on both intake and exhaust holes. It's a true merge collector unlike the ebay ones. Thick flanges. The piping is all one piece right up to the merge collector and not multiple pieces. And the person indicated her husband has had those on for a long time. I don't think ebay headers started appearing until recently(past couple years) IIRC. Can anyone identify it? There are no marks or engravings with any symbols/letters on it.

POST 2Original post

Did it occur to you that those might be the OE headers, painted with a high heat ceramic paint? Look original to me.....

POST 3Original post

no, OE don't have merge collectors like that. They look like the letter E I'm curious about the rust I see though. I think they are cheap ebay headers. Every reputable brand name headers I've seen have their name stamped on them...

POST 4Original post

They look like Fabspeed headers I had on my car but your headers are one color. Gambellas also look like that but the diameter of the tubes are much smaller. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ers-today.html

No there are NOT OE headers. LOL, have you ever seen your stock headers? I also guarantee these aren't ebay headers. Look at the true merge collector and also notice the 1 piece piping construction all the way to the merge. Need some old school header experts that's been around aftermarket 996 tuning since the day it came out to chime in here...

POST 6Original post

The oem header has multiple different features over those headers. They aren't ebay headers as they use a slip fit then welded merge collector. They may be from a UK company.

Thanks and yes they do look like Fabspeeds. I've never seen older Fabspeeds before so I wasn't sure if they all had the badging like the more recent models. I might have to see if Fabspeed can chime in on this one.

POST 8Original post

I stand corrected! Stupid comment on my part. Sorry. No, that header is definitely not OE and does look like an older Fabspeed. If you are returning the car to as close as possible to stock, why are you trying to figure out who made these headers? Selling them? BTW - what year 996?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My friend took these off thinking they might be eBay headers initially but when I looked at them, I knew they could not be ebay headers. I told him I would try to get some info so he can either sell them or put them back on.

POST 10Original post

My vote is for the older EVOMS headers... but ceramic coated rather than polished. Had a set of them on my older 1999 996 back in the day. http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/e...t-headers.html Don't think they are made anymore though. David

I don't think those are it as those have slip fit merge collector and another welded piece on each tube by the intake flange. If you look closely, you can see the difference.

POST 12Original post

The collector looks different than my B&B headers.
