Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, so i recently contacted a reputable establishment , requesting an estimate, ballpark price point on some work i would like to have done to my 1999 996 c2 cab. I spoke to the owner on the phone, and then he suggested i send him an email, listing all work i would like to be performed. So i emailed a list, suspension replacement(preferrably stock) , 4 wheel alignment ,catback exhaust install(fabspeed muffler bypass), performance air intake(fabspeed) , radiator flush and fill, and full transmission rebuild. Its been about a week, and ive yet to hear back from them, so im guessing either they are wayyy too busy, are having trouble making the calculations, or im stressing over nothing. Does anyone find this to be a normal situation or am i being "brushed off"

POST 3Original post

I certainly dont think that you are being 'Brushed off' as they stand to loose a lot of money if they don't reply. A rebuilt tranny alone you are looking at 3 and a half to 5 grand. God only knows the price of the fab speed stuff you are having put on the car plus the other work. I hazard at guess at another 5 grand. They are not likely to 'Brush you off' for that kind of work. Wouldnt you be better off putting that 10 grand together with your own car in for a newer model?????????? You should get 22 to 25 grand for your own. I gave $28000 for mine only 18 months ago and its the same year cab C2 as yours. Just a thought.

POST 4Original post

I'd say a follow up is in order. Ask them if they are too busy, so you can find someone else who may be able to do your work, in a timely fashion.

POST 5Original post

Have you made a "follow up" phone call since your 1st contact with them? IMHO, you're stressing over nothing. P.S. The time you spent to start this thread probably took much longer vs. making a phone call

POST 8Original post

Call them, it's a no-brainer. BTW, did you know the transmission and suspension were bad BEFORE you bought the car?

POST 9Original post

If they are reputable and you would really like having them look after your car I'd give them a call.. Additionally, with that amount of work you are going to want multiple estimates anyway so I'd start that dialogue as well.

POST 10Original post

I'd give them one more chance & instead of calling, just go by there & look for yourself (about the business itself, sales people, techs, management, alot of times you can tell just by giving it a quick look-over & see what kind of vibe you get from it). Taking so long to respond back to you for what would be a pretty big job could be just a prelude as to how long it could actually take for them to do the job! I've heard on more than one occassion where some shops have kept a car for 6-7 months to do what orginally was suppose to be a job that would be a week or two at most! jmo

+1 especially if it's an extended warrenty job and the warrenty company are haggling like hell with the garage who did the work. The car wont get released until the debt is paid and it could take months. I know yours isn't, but just saying.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok guys, first of all , thanks very much for the responses. im gonna take all the advice and call this shop back , just to follow up and give them the benefit of the doubt. Im not gonna name the shop at this point in time as im not looking to destroy reputations of local area businesses, even if they occasionally mishandle small situations, after all, were human. What i can say is that they are, very well known , and usually deal with high performance (track) set-ups. I bought this car after always wanting to own a Porsche. I knew full well, after googling the model, the history of issues and potential for "disaster" at any given time. My initial inspection of the vehicle was a positive one, knowing it has a few dents and scratches, but drove well. the previous owner was very open about the work he had done, which was minimal, and he provided all the paperwork and receipts filed into a binder. The test drive was good, and the car runs very well for its age, and occasionally pops out of 2nd gear. Im finding out that if you actually drive the car the way it was meant to be driven, you will experience less of the "2nd gear issue" and truly get the wow factor i was hoping for.(shift at no less than 4500-5500rpm) The suspension is ok and being a convertible, i know its gonna have some flex, but i think after 13 yrs its ready to be freshened up, so that is my reason for the change. But its one sweet car to drive, and sometimes i even sit in my garage and just stare at it,lol. My wife thinks im nuts. Sure, i could sell this car and add some cash, maybe purchase a newer model, but this is my "first " and im gonna stick it out.

POST 14Original post

Good for you on sticking it out....these cars have personality, each and everyone of them.

POST 15Original post

People get sick, people have issues, people misplace notes and accidentally delete emails, etc. IF they are reputable they'll fall all over themselves to apologize and get to you
