Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Soon after I first got my used 996 (31k miles) a few years back, I installed the LN oil filter spin on adapter, and used NAPA Gold or Mobil 1 filters since.
Leading evidence: 'Install ln oil filter spin' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install ln oil filter spin' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Yes, unless the filter is completely clogged with debris, which will also clog the LN system, or you are running straight 50 weight oil in sub zero temps, which will burst the LN oil filter, the relief valve of the stock design will never trigger, so it will always be full flow filtration.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Soon after I first got my used 996 (31k miles) a few years back, I installed the LN oil filter spin on adapter, and used NAPA Gold or Mobil 1 filters since. Yearly changes since I only put maybe 4k or less a year on the car (any of my cars, actually) . I DO NOT want any replies of "What's wrong with the original filter?", etc, etc. I believe in full filtration, period. My question is does anyone know for sure where the filter lies, in the actual flow path? I ASSUME it is right after the oil pump discharge, but can't find a flow diagram to be sure.
Note the oil pressure relief valve is integral to the pump so all oil that reaches the filter has to pass through the filter before it can reach the engine.
Thus the stock setup/filter is a full filtration setup.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Jake,
In your opinion, does the advantage of the full filtration outweigh the advantage of easy inspection of the filter pleats at time of oil change?
BTW, I am using the IMSG on my car.
Thanks,
Ron
Yes, unless the filter is completely clogged with debris, which will also clog the LN system, or you are running straight 50 weight oil in sub zero temps, which will burst the LN oil filter, the relief valve of the stock design will never trigger, so it will always be full flow filtration. I don't understand the LN design which eliminates the oil pressure releif valve.
How does the LN setup eliminate the PRV?

There is a PRV integrated in the filter housing on the factory setup. With the LN system, the spin on filters recommended do not have a PRV so there is full filtration.
The filter element can explode. But its pretty unlikely, the only likely scenario would be with very thick oil on a very cold day, which would be rare. The other possible scenario would be in the case of a massive engine failure that put so much debris in the oil that it completely clogged the filter, but at that point, a clogged filter would be the least of your worries.
I guess a third possibility would be if the oil pump PRV (different PRV from the one in the filter) failed and didn't by pass, causing overpressure in the filter.
