Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

On other forums, "Pay It Forward" posts have been very popular. The only stipulation to receive something is that you must then offer something for free too. It doesn't have to be of equal value, just something you don't need that someone else can use. I'll start this out and see if it takes off. I ordered this from Amazon: Amazon Amazon ...and it came with two extra undrilled camshaft hold down tools. If anyone in the USA or Canada wants the two undrilled holders, be the first to post "I'll take it" and I'll send them to you for FREE .

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

...just in case no one wants tools...Here's a car part: I have two door speakers out of a parted out 986. They should also fit a 996.. Unknown condition, but hey, they're free! I'll pay for shipping, but you have to put something up if you claim them.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Porsche 996 convertible /986 A-piller plastic parts. First Ill take it gets it for free, but put something up when you do.

POST 13Original post

Got a few "gently used" items and some new: The part of the water pump gasket that you cut off if you're just replacing the water pump. It goes under the adjacent housing. Used sunroof motor which doesn't have functioning memory for the endpoint calibration for one-touch operation, but still works fine if you're willing to hold the buttons down (I was not! ). Secondary air injection valve, confirmed working. Replaced preventively when my vacuum canister pooped out and I was in there anyway, but this one still works. Secondary air injection electromechanical changeover valve. Same as above, replaced preventively even though it's fine. Cupholder surround panel. An Audi spare tire hold-down bolt, part number 8D0 803 899. From a B5 A4 but will fit tons of cars.

I have the black plastic front spoiler lip from my aero kit. I took it off as it would scrape on driveways as I have the M030 suspension. It’s not perfect, has a few scrapes but I’m happy to give away to anyone that wants it. Just cover the shippping and it’s yours.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 15534107

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 15543665

I'll take the A pillar trim IF they are plastic. Want to cover them with Vinyl Carbon fiber wrap!

POST 24Original post

I'll take the blacked out side markers. Looking through my stuff so I can pay this forward!

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15546296

Yes, theyre plastic. Theyre actually out of a 986, but Im fairly sure they will fit a 996. PM me your address and Ill get them out to you.

POST 26Original post

What is the part number(s) on these two items?

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15548360

Left speaker is: 996.645.011.01 Right speaker is: 996.645.012.01

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 15548457

Thanks. It looks like there are two different versions for the 996 on the PET. I guess I'll need to open up my door to see which version of speaker box I have, if I have any at all. I suspect the prior owner deleted them to install the Kicker (crappy) speakers that are currently in the doors.

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15549915

My 996.2 has the larger speaker "boxes"(13) in the doors. Mine has the Bose system. The smaller speaker "boxes"(5) appear to be for the standard sound system.

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 15550227

I think youre right. But the smaller boxes are for the M490 option as the base cars didnt have speakers in the doors. I still need to check to see if my boxes are installed or if the last guy ripped them out. Will report back soon.

POST 34Original post

Quotes source post: 15533519

POST 61 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15558530

@Ratchet1025 Thanks again. Even though getting the old sill plate off was a bear, Im glad I switched sill plates. I really like the nameless look.

POST 63 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well the passenger side went quicker, but still was tough to get off. Heres before, during and after photos. Before During. I used dental floss to get under the original sill so I could pull it up enough to get my interior tool underneath. Then it was a tedious push and pull to get the adhesive to release the sill. Finally done.

POST 64 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need to offer up some more parts. I have 3 rods that fit a 3.4L. Anybody need one?

POST 65Original post

I have a stock M96 oil pan and the factory tips available if anyone needs them let me know.

POST 72Original post

Quotes source post: 15616623

Are they the same as 3.6?

POST 73 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15616687

Yes, all the M96 oil pans are the same. Boxster, Cayman, 996 all use the same part number. 996-107-031-55

POST 74Original post

Quotes source post: 15616745

To clarify they all fit - however early pans have exposed bolts and later pans do not and have additional protection around the bolts.

I've been thinking about picking up some Fabspeed tips. If I do, I'll hold onto my factory ones for you.

POST 78Original post

Quotes source post: 15618147

POST 79Original post

Quotes source posts: 15617985, 15618147

I have both....but I am keeping MK2 one for another 996 build in the future (they are my favorite tips). If we can figure out easy way to ship, you can have MK1 tips. I have some fabspeed MK1 tips I ran with before I got my Mk2 bumper and now custom exhaust (with welded on MK2 tips). I was planning on selling the fabspeed tips sometime in the future. I would give you a good deal on those so PM me if interested.

All of those parts are spoken for and shipped out. I will have a fresh set of heavily used parts for giveaway this fall.

POST 93 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Way back in December 2017, I purchased an oversized 20" vinyl Meatball/Roundelle from Squire Designs for my carbon fiber hood. https://squierdesign.com/meatballs.html I went with a plain one so I could use static cling numbers, but then changed my mind and went with a Roundelle with the trim ring and permanent number. I have an unused 20" plain Meatball/Roundelle that is yours for the asking. Would be great for hoods or even the side of a car. Here's what I ended up using: The Meatball/Roundelle I have is the $24 20", no ring, no numbers. First "I'll take it" below gets it. Don't forget to post up something for someone else.

POST 94Original post

I'll take it! I have an abused hood I'm going to turn into wall art. Have a few small items that I'll post soon.

POST 95 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Meatball/Roudelle should go out Priority Mail today. Anybody else have some parts they want to get rid of, post them up! TexSquirrel

POST 96 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Reviving an old thread, and offering something for free. First "I'll take it" below gets it. (Follow that up with a Private Message with your address) If you ask for these, please plan to put something up for someone else. Free to good home, un-used carbon fiber mirror covers. These are the $100 versions from eBay. The carbon fiber weaving and clear coat almost looks as nice as the $325 Rennline mirror shells, but are not the complete shell. There is doublesided tape that hold the cover to your 996/986 mirror. I purchased these covers 2 days before Rennline announced their mirror shells. I ordered the Rennline mirrors and installed them before these covers arrived from china, so these covers have never been installed.. The mirror itself in the pictures is not included, only the two carbon fiber covers. The cover is not attached obviously, I just placed it on a spare mirror so you could see how much of your mirror it will cover. Underside with the doublesided tape:

POST 111 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a free 996.2 Xenon headlight. It's not in perfect condition, but it's not horrible. Slight chip on the front edge that's not real noticeable when installed. All the bulbs work, except the turn signal. I swapped it with the faulty one in my new-to-me 996.2 headlight. This one is the later style without the lines. It works in a C2, but I think it originally fit a C4 & Turbo. The ballast and Xenon bulbs work great. The only request is I'd like someone to pay 1/2 the shipping cost once they receive it. (Try to find one of these for under $500 on eBay, I dare you) If you look closely you'll maybe see the notched chip in the front left corner. The turn signal bulb was removed. You'll receive a corroded housing(verde green) and a defective bulb. I swapped it because I'm lazy! First "I'll take it" below gets it. Follow that up with your address in PM.

POST 112Original post

Quotes source post: 18097749

I'll take it! See your PM. EDIT: I have a complete set of stock springs available. 100K miles. They're coming off a targa but should work on a cab as well. I have the fronts now. Will post another message when I have all 4 available. I also have the original targa sunshade I replaced with the updated 997 version. Nothing wrong with it, I just wanted the tighter weave of the 997 unit.

POST 113Original post

Quotes source post: 18036023

wonder what this would do on my 4.0 build? Thinking I should find out..... I'll take it and see what I have up to offer. A brake master cylinder come to mind.

POST 114Original post

Ill take the headlight! Ill pay full shipping. I have several interior parts. CD tray. Lower cubby, blackout side markers. a few others

POST 115Original post

Quotes source post: 18097749

I'll take it, but can I pay only 1/10th the shipping cost? Always negotiate! Just kidding obviously. Very generous offer. I hope whoever ends up with it at least covers the full shipping costs. .

POST 116Original post

I just pulled the original suspension off my 99 C2. It had 99,900 miles on it when I replaced it. Free to a good home if anyone is wanting to send an extra set of struts/shocks off to Bilstein for a rebuild. Probably no takers but I hate to just junk the set.

POST 117Original post

Quotes source post: 18099050

I actually have the "full monty" front suspension too from my 104K mile car, not just the springs. I figured nobody would want shocks, suspension arms, stabilizer bar links, or tie rods with those miles on them. They'll be here for a bit longer if anyone wants anything, but then they're going to a metal recycling bin. Southeast-ish PA if you want to pick them up.

Hi all... I am looking at the kindness of strangers to see if i can locate the black screwdriver from a belt roll or the wheel lug wrench nut.. these are the 2 pieces missing from mine.. I can obviously use a random screwdriver and usually get tires done at a shop but I am dreading the day i get a flat... if anyone can help

POST 120 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think I have a spare screwdriver. You can pick them up pretty cheaply on eBay as they're identical to the ones in all the BMWs and Mercedes.

POST 121Original post

@TexSquirrel I looked for these on ebay without luck ... are these it? Mercedes-Benz OEM Screwdriver Tool 1635810020 | eBay BMW SCREW DRIVER TOOL M5 F01 550I 535I 528I 740 750 (09-12) OEM | eBay

POST 122 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, the BMW one looks like it. They're made by the same company and don't have any automotive manufacture's name/part numbers. You can't tell a BMW screwdriver from a Porsche one. That Mercedes looks different(Newer version?) but is likely from the same manufacturer.

Compressor line kit was shipped a duplicate, filter cartridge for standard oil filter (I have spin on adapter, someone got this as oil change kit for gift), WeatherTech universal cupholder phone mount, front license plate frame with foam back strips to protetct paint, 996 "Schnell" short shift kit (went to OEM 997), and some carbon style flush mount hood pins.

POST 134Original post

Quotes source posts: 18107578, 18108114, 18108360

PM sent. It's definitely more notchy, kind of awkward to get in reverse (feels really close to first). Throw is short but has decent firm feel, but ultimately the 997 just feels smoother and more natural, slightly better than OEM 996. If would do any upgrade at this point would be Numeric, but it's a weekend car so just not really worth it. Sure thing, PM me address and I'll get it them shipped out, small items so I'll cover shipping.

POST 135Original post

I would love the air compressor starter kit. Let me know how to get this if still available.

POST 139 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I finally got around to ordering and today I received my aluminum RMS install tool. I had a grey 3D printed one from Chris (a fellow 996 Rennlister) and a white Delrin one. (also from a 996 Rennlister) I don't need 3 install tools, so the grey 3D printed one is up for adoption. The 3D printed one will work just fine(used only once) but I wanted a more durable one for multiple RMS installs. First "I'll take it" below gets it. Follow that up with a PM with your address. FREE to a good home! Just pay shipping. I got this to use with our 2020 garage doors and our 2007 BMW, but it loses sync every time the power goes out and that happens almost weekly where I live. I finally gave up and bought another remote unit. Instructions are in the box. It's pretty straightforward. The repeater plugs into the wall, the wire thingie is its antenna. The included remote is used to sync the repeater to the sending unit in the car. Multiple buttons/vehicles/doors can be synced; I used it for 2 cars and 3 doors, no problem (other than the aforementioned power outages). Someone please take it off my hands.

POST 193 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have some used GT3 Cup Car adjustable control arms for FREE. (Help paying for shipping cost once you receive them would be nice, but not required) First person to post "I'll take it" below gets first shot at them. Follow that up with your US/Canadian address. (Please read entire post before posting!) The good part: Fully adjustable for camber. Race car parts! The bad part: One of the control arms(L) has a torn ball joint boot. See known & unknown below The known: I pulled the caster bearing on one of the outer control arms and rotated it to make it a "left side" control arm. For a base 996, you install the control arms on the other side. I can't remember if "L" is the Cup car "Left" or the base Carrera "Left". I marked it a while ago and don't remember. But I'll get underneath my 996 and take a look and can hopefully advise. The inner control arms are different styles. One is an OEM length and one is an extended (by 16mm) length. In order to use both at 1 time, one side will need 16mm of spacers. I recommend NOT doing this, but instead you should buy an OEM or extended length inner control arm to match.(expect this to run ~$200) You will need an alignment after installing these! (expect this to run ~$200 too) I 've owned these for quite a while(I think I paid around $400 about 6 years ago) but in the end when I decided to purchase an OEM length inner to match so I could install them I decided to purchase two instead. Then I decided to purchase brand new outers. I only used/kept the shims. Unknown: I don't know the condition of the ball joints. (this is a bigger issue if you're paying someone to install than if you're DIYing, just don't be mad at me if you also have to replace one or both outers at ~$200 each) These control arms are adjustable by using shims similar to these(which are NOT included): 10mm = 1deg of negative camber These did not come from here, but these are what I purchased instead for my 996: Cup Car Outer: https://demonspeed.com/product/lower...996-cup-style/ Cup Car Inner: https://tarett.com/products/lca-rubb...44757163475108 Shims are available from lots of places, including Demonspeed, Tarett, Rennline, eBay, Etsy... OK, now that you know the possible risks, and you know you need racecar parts on your 996, go ahead and post below:

POST 195Original post

If someone is coming to Las Vegas and would like my previously installed front bumper trim to replace their 996.1 trim they are welcome to it. not sure if it's 996.1 or 996.2 part number is 503 996 00 if that helps.

POST 216 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20107233

Correct! I can’t believe I left out my favorite Boxster, the 986! It should fit any of the 986 Boxsters. They didn’t change the headlights until the 987. But the bumpers may have changed. I can’t remember.

POST 217Original post

Pair of rear bump stops. When I bought from AZ Autohouse, they say it came in each, so I ordered two. And I received 4! Here is new pair free, you only have to pay me actual usps shipping from 92101. if you are selected, please post something 996 related to give away.

POST 218Original post

If your 996.1 is in need of a refresh in the plastic trim department- Replaced all of mine on the front end. At take off the car had 42,000 miles, the parts are not perfect but present well for being original. There is some fading on the bumper cowl, I think some Black Wow restorer would be very helpful on that. Would be great replacements for a 996.1 owner out there that has very faded bumper trims or windshield cowl. Everything needed is included, and even the seal that connects to the windshield is in great shape and attached. Im in Las Vegas, NV a few blocks east of the strip. DM if you would like these for the low price of free to another enthusiast. 👍 Also have my OEM (non M030) springs available if anyone needs replacements.

CTA 2023 Transmission Mount Tool for manual transmission 996 and 997. I rented it out previously and it's been used about 3-4 times. Threads on the M8x225mm bolts and nuts are stripped and bent -- would need to be replaced. Free, just pay for shipping (~$20-25 in the con-US from 92677)

Long shot but would you still have one of the 996.2 6MT clusters (just the front half with the analog gauges)? My grey gauges are bubbling up and Im exploring replacements. Thanks!

POST 223Original post

Quotes source post: 20222627

I think so, I'll check as soon as I'm able. Which parts do you need exactly? the gauge faces?....or?

POST 224Original post

Just the bottom part in your first picture -- the white assembly with the gauge faces and needles (circled in the screenshot below). I'm hoping that by just swapping this in while keeping my car's original center display board, I will be able to retain the original mileage readout and have non-bubbly/misaligned gauges. Do let me know. Thanks a ton!

POST 225Original post

Quotes source post: 20226919

I did find the one with the missing gauge, yours if you want it. Send me your address and give me a few days. I'm still looking for the other one that has the full set. I cleaned up my garage....and now I can't find $**T!!

I have a BUNCH of Porsche parts that need to be used (by someone else). Porsche horns, 911 and 993 mirror base gaskets, 996 bumper buffers (rectangular plastic frames), and a 993 10 disc CD changer (and more! let me dig into the boxes) I will update this listing tomorrow with part numbers and pics I am looking for THAT green 996/997/986 shifter alignment tool. Do you have one that you no longer need (I will send it back if you ever do...) I just put a 997 shifter and FF shift right bearings in my 2003 C4S, but I want to re-install the original shifter, note the shift feeling, then put the upgraded 997 shifter back in, and determine the difference. (I know... a lot for "WHAT"?) But I need a green shifter tool to do it. Do you have one? Thanks, Paul

Hello Otto, Yes, they will be yours! (and a L/R set of 993 mirror gaskets) Send me a PM and I will box them up, and get you size and weight. As for the L.A. Dismantler auction, it WAS fun. I drove down from the Bay Area, filled my Cayenne to the gills with parts, and drove back, in one day... They still had a ton of stuff (don't know how much was sold though) when I left. I have no idea what ever happened to all the leftover parts...

Located in San Diego and must be gone by June 1st. Prefer pick up in downtown, but can ship at your expense. Spoiler cover paint is sun beat and faded, but no tabs broken. The metal deck lid has a dent and the left lip slightly pushed in (crease the paint a bit) The plastic spoiler is missing hinges but the accordion is there including all of the clips and the metal bar not in picture.

Thanks for keeping this thread alive. Hard to believe it’s still going over 7 years later. I‘ll have to put up some parts soon. I’m planning to clean up my garage soon and will have some spare parts to let go of.

If anyone would like a windshield cowl for a 996.1 I still have my original. Really hate to toss it if it can be of use to someone. It's still in presentable condition and worth using if yours is really faded or warped. Has seal and caps too. Located near Las Vegas Blvd on Flamingo if you're driving through.

I thought I'd throw this out here because I think there a few air cooled guys here. New air cleaner and rubber sealing donut left over from my old car. Not sure why I still have it but I hate to throw it away. It's not really worth the trouble of listing it on Ebay or Craigslist. It 100% fits a 1970 911T but pretty sure it fits some other years too. IIRC, it also fits some older Mercedes models. Free if you cover shipping from San Diego.
