Reported cause
Take a look at VF Engineering supercharger, there are a few hundreds of these kits out on the road already and proven to be quite reliable.
Leading evidence: 'quite reliable' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'quite reliable' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install on your current engine' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Where can I find out what is needed to TURBO my 04 996 c2cab prefer a "stock" type set up. I do realize this is a very generic ?. Please no smart a$$
answers like money. I already know that
Doing a quick check on Auto Atlanta, the OE '04 Turbo motor has been superceeded to this:
3.6L 05 CARRERA TURB
P/N G99610097029
Price: $66,239.69
Of course this is just the motor, and btw, the Turbo motor is vastly different than the m96 unit in your car. I don't know that your pistons, rods and crank are strong enough to take the additional pressure and heat of a turbocharger.
You'll also need intercoolers and plumbing, mufflers, cats, all the ECM and electronics, cooling plumbing, an additional radiator, beefed up trans, suspension and brakes to do it right.
Could be $90k or more in parts and a lot of labor to do it to a narrow body. This is a stock type set up.
It makes much more sence to sell your car and buy a Turbo Cab. It's a tremendous upgrade. I went from a '99 996 Cab to an '04 Turbo Cab.
you can get a super charger or turbo installed on your current engine but a 996 Turbo has a GT1 engine purpose build for boost... VERY different than what you've got now.
You'd be better of taking the $$ you would've spend on the turbo mod and putting it towards trading in your current ride for an early model 996 Turbo.
You won't just get the power but, brakes, suspension, etc. etc....
When you say
TURBO
the car .... are you talking just body mods so it has a Turbo-look -- or putting in an actual Turbo engine (and then of course doing all the body mods)?
If you want a Turbo 996, take a look at what you car is worth ($30 something), the price of a used Turbo engine and fittment ($15), factor in a little uncertainty cost ($5) and the body mods ($10K). None of that factors in the real Turbo brakes, suspension etc... My guess is that all together together you're probably not far from the price of just buying a used 996 Turbo.
Numbers may be a little off there or there -- but if you ever want to sell the thing, you'd have a much easier time pushing a real Turbo than a retro fit one. There is value in that as well.
If I were going to add forced induction to a 996, I think I'd probably favor a supercharger over a turbocharger. There are kits out there. However, my first choice would be to sell my car and buy a 996 turbo.
I dont think it is a bad idea but you cannot realistically have the stock kit. you cna get a good aftermarket kit though.

The TPC Racing CT-500 Turbo kit for the 996 is a great kit that wakes the car up. The power comes on smooth, making the car a pleasure to drive. Where some people would think that having a turbo would mean that there is "lag" compared to the supercharger, there is no waiting for the power with this kit. We have clients tracking their 996's and 997's with the CT-500 (996 kit) CT-520 (997 kit) and enjoy it very much because they can put the power down and have it come in smooth.
The drive-ability of the car is fantastic. When driving a car with the TPC Racing CT-500 kit as a daily driver, you don't notice anything different, but once you get into the throttle, a new world opens up. The exhaust note is a bit louder than stock with more grunt to it, but nothing obnoxious that produces a loud drone in the cabin.
Here is a link to more information with dyno graphs and videos describing the product.

Wow thanks guys I think I'll just tell the wife she can not have the turbo installed. It is after all her car. she is just trying to keep up with my vette. She suffers from horse power envy.. LOL
LOL.. yeah and when her 911 has 170K on it going strong and you vette fell apart long ago.. Then she will be laughing at you.
Plus as shes leaning in to a corner and holding it while watching you bouce off the road due to your garbage suspention.... You will realize she has the right car for the job.
America and the big three like to go fast in a straight line for 1/4 mile.. Europe likes to go fast around corners and go for hours on the autobahn.....
Thats the first time I have heard of a turbo car being louder, every car I have turbo charged is much more quiet, since you have a turbo muffling the exhaust note. The increased power doesnt practically effect the exhaust, it would be the mufflers post the turbo, so I am assuming you change them?
Curious about the kit as the site doesnt say explicitly that I can read, what is the ECU and tuning applied in your kit? IC specifications and turbo specs? Max boost pressure tested? Intake charge temps? Pressure drop across the IC? Cheers!
