Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The rubber strap that attaches the gas cap to the body broke this morning (why does stuff always break when I drive it and not when she does?). Does anyone know the P/N for it? Better still, is there a good online parts guide for the 996 like BMW fans have with RealOEM? Thanks, -dave

POST 2Original post

Sorry, looked at it too quickly and thought it said pre nup!

POST 3Original post

When mine broke, I bought a whole new gas cap on ebay. Strap didn't look to be easily replacable. Ted

Well getting married was a condition of buying the car for her

POST 5Original post

Happened to my car too. The bad news is you have to buy the whole cap and comes with the lanyard. The good news it's only about $10.00. I just ordered one from Sunset Porsche along with other stuff should have mine Monday.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow $10 is a lot cheaper than I expected. I figured that the screw/clip would break too when I went to install the new one and they'd charge $100 for that

POST 7Original post

Well you could alwasy buy the $139.00 silver plated gas cap http://www.suncoastparts.com/product//X99720198000.html

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not complaining, just shocked

POST 9Original post

Happened to me to. Now I just set the gas cap on top of the pump.

POST 10Original post

Same here. I didn't know they had one till reading this posting. I set mine on the wiper blade while filling the tank. Of course there is no lock on my gas door either. Things that a dealer PPI failed to even mention to me. The coniving ba****d. Thats why I always stress since buying mine to have an independant PPI and not from the dealer. Dealers only mention things they want us to know and tend to very casually overlook things they want to hide from us.

POST 11Original post

There is a lock, it's electronic. When you turn the car on the gas cap locks and to unlock it you have to turn the car off.
