Only when I set the a/c temp to "low" does it blow cold and out of the proper vent.

Suggestion

During the cooling season, actual use of the A/C, it's a very good idea to always remember to manually shut off the cooling airflow to the windshield otherwise you might find yourself blinded by slow accummulation, most dangerous at evening/dusk, on the outside of the windshield.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My a/c has started blowing out of all the vents (defrost, front, lower) when set to just the front. It isn't blowing very cold either. It seems to blow out of the defrost vents the most no matter what setting it's on and very forcefully when turned up. Only when I set the a/c temp to "low" does it blow cold and out of the proper vent. I recently relocated the a/c to the lower compartment but I don't see what I could have done wrong there, the connectors seem to be pretty idiot proof when it comes to hooking them up. Ideas and suggestions would be appreciated!

POST 2Original post

It sounds like you might have one more of the servo motors failing or it could possibly need to be calibrated. I think your best bet is to get a scan tool on it and see whats going on, it should tell you what need to know.

SOP...! It's all about avoiding even the slightest bit of discomfort for the driver and passenger. Once the cabin atmosphere reaches your temperature setpoint, or even closely nearby, the blower speed will drop and the outflow wil go into a wide dispersement and moderate cooling mode. Low speed widely dispersed system outflow at "just" enough cooling level to maintain your setpoint. 75 setpoint will result in ~72F system outflow. My '01 C4 has a coolant flow shutoff hose so I can block coolant low to the heater during cooling season thereby bypassing the system reheat/remix mode. Dramatically more efficient A/C, lower power load on the engine plus less het load in front of the radiators. Conversely a switch modification hidded in the console allows me disable the A/C clutch during the heating season. During the cooling season, actual use of the A/C, it's a very good idea to always remember to manually shut off the cooling airflow to the windshield otherwise you might find yourself blinded by slow accummulation, most dangerous at evening/dusk, on the outside of the windshield.
