Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had clips that were off or out of their holes, loose screws that needed tightening, wires that were hanging loose and swinging back and forth (3rd brake light wire comes to mind) and I had a few screws missing from the 2 metal plates where the ECU is housed.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, it seems like it at least! I've had misc rattles and squeaks that annoyed me to no end. It finally built up inside of me and I was tired of hearing them. Well last night I spent over an hour and tracked down every single one of them. I had the entire rear of the car (inside) out and tackled one piece of trim at a time. I had clips that were off or out of their holes, loose screws that needed tightening, wires that were hanging loose and swinging back and forth (3rd brake light wire comes to mind) and I had a few screws missing from the 2 metal plates where the ECU is housed. Not sure WHY they are missing but I put some weather strip on the bottom side to at least keep them from making noise until I can get new screws. I wonder if my ECU has been "chipped" and someone forgot to put the screws back in??? That would be cool. Anyway, I was amazed at just how nice and quiet my car was this morning on my drive in to work. It was like driving a new car.

POST 2Original post

Nice... Maybe you can write up a short set of instructions for the problem areas.. I still get little squeaks and rattles from the passenger side as well as the roof and rear of the car. I'd like to check it out but don't know where to start... And it wouldn't take me just an hour either..

POST 3Original post

I don't know how reliable a write up would be from someone with a "few screws loose".

POST 4Original post

The hardest part is finding the item that noise is coming from. It took me 4 dealer visits to sort out all the noised in my cab. Best thing is when you drive, touch each piece to see if rattle stops. Or, removal pieces of interior one at a time. It's a pain staking process. When all the rattles are out, the car feels solid like a MB.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well it's kind of hard to reach in to the back area while I'm driving! All my issues were in areas that you simply can't reach while driving. So for me, the best thing to do was go in the back and push around on the trim items that I thought were giving me problems. Almost every panel I pushed on was loose so it was easier to take everything apart and see what was going on. And this way I got to inspect everything and luckily I did because I wouldn't have found a few of the items I fixed.

POST 6Original post

I had a squeek in my BMW that I could not figure out. It was comming from the trunk area. I had a friend drive the car around with me in the trunk. When I found the source of the squeek I yelled for her to stop. She stopped in front of this house where two elderly ladies were sitting on the front porch. The look on thier faces was priceless when she opened the trunk and let me out. I can only imagine what they were thinking.....

POST 8Original post

I did pretty much the same thing about a year ago, only I did it over two weekends. Windows, windshield, defroster trim panels, door panels, clips, wires, dash trim pieces. This car is quiet finally! except for the low rumble from the engine...love it!
