Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, I bought a 996 engine and transmission from a damaged 996.... I plan on getting a 996 and this will make a nice backup if something lets go.
There is a Vortech supercharger available, just the bracket and some pulleys. Theres lots of items missing.
Is the unit in the picture a 996 unit. All that is available is whats in the picture. How much should I offer?
Also, how would you compare a properly supercharged 996 VS stock turbo?
Thanks for the reply.
Asking price is $2500. Includes supercharger ( in perfect condition ) , mounting bracket, pulleys and a few other small items.
I am not sure if this model had the intercooler but theres no intercooler or intake pipe. Also, whats needed for the ECU with this package?
not sure what you are asking.... are you selling this? or buying... the supercharger is an VFengineering kit... looks to be one of the older ones. If that is all that available, I would not buy it.... lots of stuff missing and will only work as a kit.
$2500 for just the supercharger is way to much $$$ IMO, for th 3.4 engine it will be slightly slower than a TT. For a 3.6 engine.... it will be faster slightly. In this market, I would just get a TT.

Thanks for the reply. I am interested to buy this supercharger but I have no idea what its worth..... that is why I am asking for feed back.
I figure, I can have the intake built then I would just have to figure out the ecu and intercooler.
If the price was under $1500 for the supercharger, bracket and pulleys.... would that be a fair offer or not even.
As for the 996tt.... It is very tempting.
Looks like alot of money just for the SC. And it is missing plumbing, that can add up.
I would call Vortech and ask for a parts listing first...that would be considering IF the SC is in good condition.
Whoa, you need a LOT more parts. You're missing all the plumbing, the radiator, and a zillion other bits. On top of that, the ECU needs to be modded by EVOMS (or someone, but I don't know who else could do it). Just the ECU mods run about $1K, if I remember.
Unless you're a glutton for punishment, I would run, not walk, away from this!
I'm not sure if it does or not, although I lean towards thinking it probably does.
Here's a data point: I had my SC on for about 50K miles, and it was put on when the engine already had about 40K on the clock. I do several track events per year, and drive the car as a daily driver also. I finally blew the engine at the track last fall, with 90K on it.
Was it the SC that did it? Maybe, but I know guys with un-modded 996 blocks who have blown their engines with far less miles.
For whatever it's worth, I had it taken off the old engine and moved over to the new one, so you know I like it.
CarlosR thats for the info, it good to keep in the back of your mind. I do not think you could add 100+HP to any engine for the cost of a SC.
A race engine would be 3-4 times the cost and probably not as powerful.
carcster88 thanks, I love red, have three red cars in the fleet at my house.
The car has a black top which I think looks even better than with the hard top on.
Thanks for the reply's. I thought I would update this, the seller and I agreed on a price, it was more expensive than I wanted to spend but more items were included.
I KNOW that a 996Turbo has A LOT more potential but I figure a 430HP light weight 996 C2 will also be fun. The engine will get a few upgrades.... IMS bearing ect...
So theres a few items missing but the items I have are the following-
1- Vortech supercharger ( in perfect condition, bearings are perfect and turbine spins beautiful)
2- Billet aluminum supercharger bracket
3- water cooled intercooler + piping
4- cone filter + MAF
5- over sized bosch injectors
6- pulleys
7- all intake pipes except for the large pipe from the supercharger to intercooler
8- crank case vent
+ a few other items I am forgetting right now.
The items I will have to address- the ecu will have to get reprogrammed.... it should not be that expensive . Source a radiator for intercooler + I am sure there are other items but the main kit is there.
I am actually looking forward to the project once I get to it.
Thanks again for all the replys
After doing some research..... these superchargers are really very popular, there a extremely durable high quality unit. If you find them for sale they get snapped up quite quick by enthusiasts building custom projects.
I think new they are over $2000.
