Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Since everyone is fessing up, I have had my car for a little over a year and always thought I only had one cup holder as well until two weeks ago my younger dtr said there were two "See?" I really do not feel too secure putting two filled cups in the holders and driving.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

33 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am a genius! I have been cursing Porsche for delivering the car with only one tiny cupholder when suddenly during a (very) spirited driving, cuphodler #2 popped up from nowhere!

POST 2Original post

Haha! I also didn't know my car had another one until my wife was playing with it and found the "hidden" feature.

POST 4Original post

keep pulling, maybe something else will happen

POST 5Original post

Same thing happened to me. But my 6 yr old son a the time said there are 2 cups in the little picture...then the light came on! Too funny - glad I wasn't the only one.

POST 6Original post

And such a perfect location for a coffee holder - right over the radio and HVAC controls. What could go wrong...

POST 7Original post

I hear you, when I was selling my 996 interior someone asked for my cupholder. I told them that it didn't have one. I never noticed it before.

POST 8Original post

should be called an "empty cup" holder, I don't see a big gulp lasting long in either one

POST 9Original post

It's called the "best place to put liquid that will probably spill into your radio and HVAC controls...uh.. holder"

POST 10Original post

Cool feature. I wish I had that on mine as I have NO cup holders.

POST 11Original post

Have you found the secret compartment in the dash yet...

POST 12Original post

You mean this secret compartment? http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/

I haven't...Where is it???

POST 14Original post

The salesperson told me that unfortunately the 996's only have one cupholder. I didn't really think much of it. Got it home and quickly found there were two. It only took me a week or so to find that aggressive turns with a cup in position #1 will make it slide out and it happens pretty regularly. Either yours is stickier than mine, you need to be more spirited, or you're smoother than I am.

POST 16Original post

Since everyone is fessing up, I have had my car for a little over a year and always thought I only had one cup holder as well until two weeks ago my younger dtr said there were two "See?" I really do not feel too secure putting two filled cups in the holders and driving. How strong is that plastic? I'm not too secure even with the "one" I thought I only had. I still hold on to my drink (try not to have a drink in most cases) when I make turns and make the turns a lot slower.

POST 17Original post

My car doesn't have any cup holders, or a glove compartment! Luckily, they invented the Ultimate Cup Holder!

POST 19Original post

The wife discovered the second one - she was tugging on it and it got longer.

POST 21Original post

cupholders? thats what the passenger is for... what else would they do?

POST 22Original post

Shhh, the long indent in the passenger side door sill is for a Porsche (wait for it ) Umbrella !

POST 23Original post

^^^^ holy, $80 umbrella!!! http://www.suncoastparts.com/product//WAP05008119.html

POST 24Original post

Wow, now that I didn't know! Not that I'm going to rush out and buy a $80 umbrella, but nice to know.

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 8591507

$80 for the Boxster one.. the 996 one is $14 more and the 997 one is $68 more but comes with a matching umbrella for your watch You can get the 914 one for $6 but its not real

POST 27Original post

Live in Oregon for a few years and rain won't bother you anymore.

POST 28Original post

Yeah - the 'need' is one thing but the cool factor "gee those Germans think of EVERYTHING" is quite another....I might have to spring for one..........

POST 30Original post

I've had my car 8 months and I didnt know I had a second cup holder until I read this!

POST 32Original post

Sounds like it's time for some to visit the sticky about things you didn't know about the 996 at the top of the page!

POST 33Original post

I found out about the 2nd cupholer about a month into ownership. Cool stuff!
