Anyone have favorite locations for the magnetic antenna and/or advice on running the wire?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So when I called at canceled XM when my lease ended on my subaru - they sent me a free XM radio and car kit. I am going to add it to the 04 C4S cab this weekend. Two questions: Anyone have favorite locations for the magnetic antenna and/or advice on running the wire? What is the easiest place to pull power from in order to direct wire the radio unit into the car? I want to HW my Valentine1 and the radio this weekend. Thanks. J

Mine is mounted UNDER the plastic cowling at the base of the windshield on the passenger side, this would be above where the cabin filter is. I double stick taped it and grounded with a small piece of metal on the magnetic bottom and a wire. Totally invisable. You can pull power from the cable behind the center console, it is used for the factory phone kit.

POST 3Original post

Mine is at base of the windshield under the red alarm light. It is actually desighed with a tray to take an XM antenna.

POST 4Original post

Here's mine, it was this way when I bought the car. I was thinking they should have trimmed the little pad, but it goes unnoticed.

POST 5Original post

I too put mine under the center front dash cover for the OEM alarm LED. Not only is there a metal tray for the antennae to attach to but there is an opening to run the cable to the radio area!

That's the spot for the factory nav antenna, I put my nav antenna there so no room for the XM one.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so do you remove the cover under the light and then put the plastic back? Does this work? I thought they needed a clear view of the sky?

POST 8Original post

Yes, and it will have a clear view of the sky in the OEM position under the alarm led.
