Suggestion

I have done smaller deposits with people once I have seen the car and registration - it is pretty common for used car purchase even from private party - and really - is someone going to go through all that trouble to rip you off for 500 bucks?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Been lining up a nice 996. We agreed to price which was her asking price and was just waiting for the inspection which is set for this Tuesday. Lady emails me this afternoon...so sorry...sold to another for same price...they didnt want a PPI so I sold it to him instead. Fuggin see you next tuesday!!!!! Oh well...the dood shes selling to is gonna get hosed because she was leary of the PPI from the first time i mentioned it. grrrrrr

POST 2Original post

you are much better off not getting any car you can't do a PPI to do - and there are a TON of them ou there

POST 3Original post

from a seller's perspective she made the right call. Sorry things didn't work- good luck with the search as otto says - there are other fish out there.

exactly... the woman selling would be foolish to pass up a sale for a potential one when no deposit has been offered! Lesson learned, hopefully!

yup it wasnt....ive moved on to a nice silver one number thats 2 years newer good thing i have a ppi booked! :P just curious though...how many people would give a complete stranger a deposit? i totally understand at a car dealer but a private individual youve never met?

POST 9Original post

I have done smaller deposits with people once I have seen the car and registration - it is pretty common for used car purchase even from private party - and really - is someone going to go through all that trouble to rip you off for 500 bucks? I always write the receipt as refundable deposit with the terms we agreed to and have us both sign.

POST 10Original post

Usually I leave a check and usually the seller doesnt even cash it...

POST 11Original post

You are probably in the same place you would have been after the PPI, but you didn't waste any time and money on the PPI. Be glad and move on.

POST 12Original post

Even with a check she could sell to the next person and rip your check up or hand it back to you. Even with a cash deposit the same thing applies. She could hand you the cash back. In other words. She can sell to whoever she likes. She could gazump you for a higher price from the next person. She can refuse to sell it to anyone afterall. It is her car. If she has signed something to the effect she will sell to you then you can take her to court. Other than that, Bollux to her and move on.

Call me crazy but when I was pursueing the C4S purchase - long distance - sight unseen - never met the seller. I did put up a 10% deposit via certified bank check. I get it that I was taking a risk but sometimes trust has to be a part of the deal. Now understand that I was on the hunt for a C4S for quite some time and this one appeared to be the closest to a perfect example as I had come across - so I was quite motivated to not lose the opportunity to own it. After the PPI I had the car shipped and fortunately everything worked out very well.
