Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Here's a stock sub with the Focal 5WS they were replaced with.

I used silicone to make sure there's an airtight/rattle free seal.

Suggestion
I know you changed your amp, speakers and sub, but I was wondering how it sounds with the stock unit in place?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I can't say enough good thing about Rod at

. I had a few snags w/this one too and he sat on the phone and walked me through it. If your thinking of a stereo upgrade he's da Man (no affiliation - just a happy customer).
This step just involved removing the door panels and replacing the subs.
Here's a stock sub with the Focal 5WS they were replaced with.
To remove the door panel unsnap the cover on the grab handle. Behind this are two T30 Torx screws. There is also a plastic screw in the armrest (careful, it strips easily), a 3mm allen screw behind the airbag plug, and a phillips screw behind the latch (I forgot to mark this one in the pic). The triangular panel near the rearview mirror unsnaps at the base and slides up. Once you remove all the screws the door panel unsnaps around the bottom, front and rear edges, then slide it up and out of the window seal channel. There's a few plugs to disconnect and the latch if you want it all the way off. Voil!
Here's they are installed. I used silicone to make sure there's an airtight/rattle free seal.
Ready to Rock - they sound tight
Next project - OE's 8 point clay bar and RejeX detail.
rob, very nice... Thanks for sharing the pics and putting the time in.
Did you replace your stock head unit? I know you changed your amp, speakers and sub, but I was wondering how it sounds with the stock unit in place?
Whoa - this thread is a year old and it pops again.
Steve - yes they fit in the existing holes, but they are not air-tight so silicon is required. Since I did this I've had to do one side over again because it was vibrating at certain frequencies. I paid $380.00 for both.
Jim - they sound great. I had a single 8" in my old 911 and they sound just as good. They do need sufficient power, the stock amp is a joke.
Jon - I kept the PCM in because I wanted everything to look stock. It sounds good. Rod has told it would sound better with a different head, but I like the look of the PCM.
Yes, I know its an old post, and sorry to ask a potentially dumb question. But, for anyone who has removed their door panel, what does Rob refer to when he says "the latch"?
Thanks and sorry for the stupid question,
--H
Thanks Andy. I think of a latch as, well.....a latch! Like a door latch that secures to a notch to hold the door closed. I'd call that a 'handle'.
Really appreciate it. Cheers, --H
