Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used uShip to get my 996 from Phoenix to Florida, a few observations...pay close attention to the reviews of the carriers making the bids, you want as large of a sample population as possible.

As I was filling up my car (Turbo) a guy at the other side of my pump was filling his pickup truck's tank.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

so i'm moving to philly in a couple of months and will be shipping the car out there from california
i'll be using Uship and thus far the bids i've been getting have ranged from 1k-1200 which is decent. i got a quote from intercity (the sponsor here) for 1800 which is ridiculous.
anyway, my question is where is the best position of the car for an open trailer? I'm thinking its on the first level right behind the driver ( as in the first car in). This way less shtuff will be hitting it. But i noticed that there's an option for $75 to guarantee a top level transport. Why is that better than the spot i want? I figure that it's MOST protected - aside from enclosed trailer - from the weather/elements/debris if its in the first level behind/inbetween cars.
should i get the top placement or first level?
$1,800 coast to coast is not ridiculous from a reputable carrier. I believe all Intercity trucks are fully enclosed. There is a great disparity in quality and dependability when it comes to shipping a car. I would not shop on price alone.
I used uShip to get my 996 from Phoenix to Florida, a few observations...pay close attention to the reviews of the carriers making the bids, you want as large of a sample population as possible. There is a large difference in price between enclosed and open. A car on the top of the carrier will not get leaked on vs. a car on the bottom (again, only works assuming the car above is leaking). If you are flexible with the time you can get your car on the truck, that will definitely work to your advantage. I had an enclosed carrier contact me right after I put it on that was on the way to Florida already, and could have stopped and grabbed the car, and posted a great bid, but unfortunately the seller did not have it ready to go quite yet.
Good luck!
Also, meant to add -- the prices seemed to get quite a bit cheaper after a few days. I think I ended up paying about 60% of what the first few offers were, so sit tight and they get cheaper.
SubzeroX,
As rpm's S2 mentioned our price quote is for fully enclosed, insured, lift gate loading and door to door service, it is the only service we offer. If you are comparing us to open carrier prices then yes we would be higher. If we can help you with your move please let us know.
Thanks,
Jim

Hi, I had my 996 C4 shipped by Intercity, in fact I had booked with Jim (same Jim above?) from Colorado to Connecticut. For the price and the service it is worth it; i.e peace of mind, good communication, enclosed trailer, no dings, no scraps or bruises. I would recommend having the car enclosed. I do recommend Intercity I had my car as well as my friends car's, GT3, Cabriolet shipped with them.
I just don't have 2k to spend on shipping when I can get offers for half that. I also have a car cover that I can put over the car to help.
And closed trailer prices are 1400. If you can price match we can work something out
FWIW: On a road trip some months back and I stopped at a Chevron station in Amarillo TX. As I was filling up my car (Turbo) a guy at the other side of my pump was filling his pickup truck's tank.
He commented favorably on the car.
Somehow we got to talking he got to talking and told me he had a chance drive a late model Porsche 911.
Said he was a truck (big rig) driver and was at a rest stop when he was approached by another big rig driver driving a car hauler.
This car hauler driver said his truck was overweight and asked if the 1st guy would mind driving a car from the stop past the weigh/inspection station on beyond a ways to another convenient spot at which point the car could be reloaded.
The 1st guy said sure. So the 2nd driver rolled off a late model 911 and handed the keys to the 1st driver.
The 1st driver said he had 'fun' driving the car. He met up with the car hauler driver and the Porsche was loaded back on the truck.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Jim is correct,
My son had a 1968 Camaro shipped from Virginia to SoCal via Intercity and they arrived a day early, the car was clean and shiny just the way it was given to them and the driver was very courteous. I am a believer, you get what you pay for
Not going to tell you how to spend your money, but car cover will be buffeted by the airflow during the vast distance and highway speed, your paint will be all scuffed by the time the car gets to the destination.
I would not trust my car to the lowest bidder. And I would not ship my Porsche 3,000 miles on an uncovered truck, no matter where it was placed.
Just my opinion...
+1. To intercity. Nightmare experience with earth city movers two days ago. They sub out most of their work. Word search transportation for recent posts on this site.
