Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Morning All I'm going to look at a 2000 C2 with 18500 miles. The owner claims that the engine was just replaced at 18000 miles after the dealer/mechanic "damaged" the engine block (broken bolt or something) and subsequently noticed stress cracks. I suspect the incident was initially caused by a bad RMS since they were repairing an oil leak. Anyway.... the question is, what is the code on the engine serial number that would indicate that this is a NEW engine vs REMANUFACTURED? I would guess that the replacement engine is not actually NEW. Also, what are your thoughts on getting a remanufactured engine in a car that only has 18000 miles? I'm not sure that the fact that the car has had an engine replacement either hurts or helps in my price negotiation. Thanks for the help.

Jim - Check out this thread about engine numbers. Post #6 by Orient Express discusses the meaning of the digits in the serial number. This should give you what you need. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ghlight=engine You can also do a search on "new engine" or "new motor" in this forum to find other threads on this topic.
