Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

FYI, I just discovered the .2 tank fits on a .1.

That's good to know! Thanks! (Confused; I thought someone on another thread said that it wouldn't...)

Personal experience or you read it? I was under the impression that they wouldn't fit. If it does fit, that's a significant savings as the MK-I tank is 4 times the cost.

Someone just did it on the FB page. Thought I'd share this info...

That seems credible....

Maybe (my fellow smart *** ) some sarcasm? It's a group of enthusiast just like here and I don't think the guy just made it up.

POST 7Original post

I had mine done by FSI while my engine was out. I had 1 option - Official Porsche tank... expensive, but if I get another 20 years out if it, not so bad...

Good to know we're in good company. Personally, I would like a little more evidence before doing this myself. Got anything more substantive?

Do you have a link? There are a number of Porsche FB pages.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I belong to several groups but not sure which one it was on. I'll search...Or, maybe it was all a dream? https://www.facebook.com/groups/996o...epa=SEARCH_BOX I fitted the .2 tank to my 3.4 car after having bad luck with two different tanks. I haven't had a problem with the newer tank yet.

Great advice that I didn't take - Jake R is right on this one. I am on my second aftermarket tank, with slight leak at (new) cap that just won't tighten up. I have a new Porsche tank on the shelf on the garage, I get depressed looking at it - the thought of doing this a THIRD time makes my gut turn. On a side note, I was sent a .2 tank by a vendor and returned it assuming it would not fit - they also insisted it would fit but exchanged it for the proper tank.

They probably won't approve me as a member since I don't have any photos of my car on Facebook, which is a requirement. Whatever.

POST 13Original post

Make sure your cap on the tank is Blue,, The earlier black caps were superseded by a "better" cap.

POST 14Original post

Any intrepid soul out there that wants to do a write up and pictorial on this? It'd save .1 owners a ton of coin if it is true... Hello vendors? jason@warehouse33? Sell me a 996.2 reservoir at cost and I'll test it out on my (1 year old) 996.1 (MY2000) reservoir. Labor, write ups and photos on me.

Order it, and if it doesn't work someone (maybe me) will buy it.

POST 16Original post

I went through this with my 99. I had a genuine German replacement part but not a genuine Porsche part put in. My independence replaced it under warranty at no cost twice. Short of putting a $650 Porsche part in, what I found was the level of fluid needs to be just a little bit lower than the lines would indicate. Problem solved. The cap is working properly, what's happening is that the pressure is too high because the tank is over filled and so he's bleeding off fluid. Mine never runs hot, which is the final thought in why I didn't make the Indy mechanic put in a genuine Porsche part.
