Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I would certainly try a reset of the whole car by disconnecting the negative lead of the battery, wait a few minutes and reconnect.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
My 1998 996 C2 tip is a joy to drive. She really offers so much satisfaction for her age and mileage. But there are a few hiccups.
The passenger side door suddenly refused to open. The inside handle does not have the familiar resistance when pulled, the button on the dashboard is ineffective. The key remote has stopped working too. Using the key in the driver's door only opens and locks the driver's door. My indie ran a diagnostic and says it seems the passenger door lock module is malfunctioning, and hence the central locking is disabled. He suggested i get a new door lock which i have ordered. The burning question is how to get the door open to fit the replacement door lock mechanism?
Bad news! The cable that runs between inside door handle and door latch mechanism may have come undone. Unfortunately you need to remove the door card in order to get to it and that is going to be extremely difficult without being able to open the door. It can be done but it is going to be tricky. What happens when you pull on the outside handle? I would certainly try many many lock and unlock cycles to see if perhaps just once the door unlocks. Have someone push on the door from outside while unlocking. Might just get the door latch to unlatch if lucky. Anything else not working? Check fuse B8 and C3. Does the power window on that side work?
Check out this thread with detailed instructions:

The inner door handle and outer door handle both move freely, no resistance. The windows both work, except the passenger side window does not drop when you tug the inner door handle.
I will check the fuses as suggested
Thank you
One of the microswitches on the door latch is either stuck or not working due to internal electrical failure, thus why the window doesn't drop. But it really does sound like the entire door latch mechanism has failed. Again, shy of trying to remove the door card while the door is shut (nearly impossible), you may really have to consider a mobile locksmith to spring the door latch mechanism. If you look closely through the pictures in the DIY thread I posted above, you will be able to see how difficult it is to get in there even with full access/door open. Good luck!
What happened just prior to this problem? Any work done on the car? Did the immobilizer get wet? Battery been disconnected or renewed? Any sign of battery weakness, voltage drop? I assume the car starts and runs okay. I would certainly try a reset of the whole car by disconnecting the negative lead of the battery, wait a few minutes and reconnect.
