Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I just installed my old belt as it was in fine shape.

As load conditions change the tensioner will need to loosen and tighten to keep up.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I went to install a new belt the other day after finishing up new starter, filler tube, and Y cable. I was able to get the new belt on but the tensioner pulley was at its MAX deflection. Very little space to the pulley next to it. I but the old back on and with it I am able to get a quarter inch or so of movement from the pulley. Do new belts stretch? Should I try a new one? A am afraid of a different amount of tension causing wear on other pulleys if it is at max. Old belt has 55k on it.
I don't remember having any trouble when I put on my new belt. It's helpful to have another pair of hands there to lever the tensioner while you deal with the belt.
A belt tensioner should never be at its max position once the belt is installed. If this is the csse after final install then you have the wrong belt or routed it wrong. It is normal to have to move it to max to get the belt on. But after its on and you have confirmed its on all the pulley correctly the tensioner should have some slack. As load conditions change the tensioner will need to loosen and tighten to keep up. If the tensioner is at its limits it can cause damage in several ways.
I have the same one from AutohausAZ. Haven't tried to install yet. I would imagine a new belt would give a little after a few heat cycles. At least that was the case on a BMW Conti belt I recently replaced.
Ive heard other folks replace their 996 belts and for whatever reason, not all are the same size. I never had this problem, but I remember reading posts about it, so please search.
I had the same issue come up. Tensioner was literally rubbing the one next to it and the new belt wasn't close to fitting. I just installed my old belt as it was in fine shape. But my guess is some cars pulleys have different/odd sizes ie alternator and water pump pulleys. Just a guess
