Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'batteries' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'batteries' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace plugs and tubes yourself' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Also, if the key fob hasn't been used for a while (I think a week?), it doesn't work until the car is opened again.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all. I'm looking for a 911 Carrera 4 Coupe with manual and it is surprisingly hard to find. When I look for my cars, I often look nationwide and either fly and drive it home or have it shipped after having a Porsche certified mechanic look at it. I found one that meets almost all of my wants and had the owner take it to a local place that I found and arranged to have it inspected.
The shop gave me the following feedback:
Very minor oil seeping. The inspector believed it to be valve covers
Key fobs don't work, may just be the batteries
Mirrors don't adjust
One of the out axel boots is torn and needs to be replaced
I have an 01 Boxster S and I have one fob that works and one that doesn't. It isn't the battery. I suspect it isn't the battery in this case either.
Given that feedback, I'd like to hear your thoughts on what the mechanic has told me. For the record, the IMS work has been done on this car and is documented. It is nearly 2k miles from me and I'd probably ship this one to me if I buy it.
How minor is minor? It could be the rear main seal, which is not a minor job. That said, you may be able to live with it for a while. I watch the oil level on my car like a hawk as it is.
Probably the batteries. Also, if the key fob hasn't been used for a while (I think a week?), it doesn't work until the car is opened again.
Weird. Fuse?
Biggest issue I guess. Fixing this might be an opportunity to check out the oil leak, or get it fixed.
If it checks your boxes and you can negotiate some of the repairs into your price it doesn't sound terrible. You have proof of the IMS which is always a plus. I would try to narrow down the oil leak but the rest sounds fairly minor.
indy discovered a similar oil leak on the valve covers of my coupe. During the fix, I decided to update or fix many other items (AOS, RMS, IMSS). Not sure this will happen to you, just a warning.
Very likely the case here. To OP, that's a pretty minor issue if that is indeed the source of the leak. Change the plugs and tubes yourself. Not a bad DIY.
