Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

At $2,000, it makes a lot of sense, plus would be cool just to be able to change colors every 3 or 4 years.

They can still tear/chip, and once done you have to replace a huge panel to fix it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A buddy who owns a 996tt told me yesterday that he couldn't find anyone to wrap his car. It was speed yellow when he bought it recently and he was gonna wrap it. He ended up paying $11k to have it repainted blue.
There are so freaking many silver, gray or black cars on the market, and Kalashnikov got me to thinking last week about just getting one and having it wrapped for a couple of thousand $$. But my buddy seemingly shot down that idea. I know for example, it's really hard to find someone to tint the hatch glass of a 944/951 because of the curve.
Thoughts?
Any pics of wrapped 996s?
there's quite a few 996's wrapped on this board...every markets different but on the east coast, a top tier shop will cost 3k range for 996...someone posted WA state it's closer to 6k
there's a 996 turbo wrapped in blue in classified...i think it's originally black
Plenty of places in SoCal, but of course the price is ridiculously high here as well.
Someone is driving around the stadium area in a chrome-wrapped Mercedes. It looks ridiculous. The only wrap I've seen that I liked was matte black...but that has been played out for YEARS now.
Was it an AMG Mercedes? Prolly Kalashnikov.
I was on Rodeo Drive last month and saw a Bentley wrapped in fuzzy black velour. Claaaasssssyyyy!
Edit: I think it was this one.
A crappy wrap still looks better than a bubbling or peeling Plastidipped car. So much effort for something that looks ok for a very short while and terrible for some time thereafter...

But why would you, it would be like putting a happy face on the Mona Lisa.

IDK
in my mind there is a difference between wrapping and paint. So if someone wanted a green car and it was pink, that would be a paint issue. If someone wanted graphics that would be a wrap issue.
I just can't see giving someone respect if I hear their car was wrapped a different color.
Everyone's gonna have a different take on it. Prices will vary based on location/overhead/type of vinyl used for the most part.
IMO, wrap is fine however I think it's sort of a waste to go with a common color.
I'd rather see a wrapped Porsche than one that has yellowing clear bra on it IMO.
I'd consider wrapping my Corvette - the paint is original and in great shape for a 20-year-old car. Vinyl would help preserve the paint and give me the option of a new, non-permanent paint change...
This is exactly the advantage I see. I haven't checked into prices, but was using Kalash's $2,000 number as the basis. At $2,000, it makes a lot of sense, plus would be cool just to be able to change colors every 3 or 4 years. For example, although speed yellow is on my list of 3 colors, I've been told by a couple of people that I might get tired of that color after a year or so. I think it looks great, but I could definitely see a point where I might feel a little silly as a 50+ year old guy driving around in a speed yellow car. Guards red and cobalt blue I don't think would have the same issue, but the wrap option, at $2,000, makes paint color a non-issue. At $6,000 for a wrap, well that's a different animal.
You can do it in a way that doesn't look too hideous, IMO.

Call your local places, this is your best bet. I wouldn't DIY it, it is a pain in the butt.
I wrapped my Acura in Carbon Fiber pattern at one point. It looked ****-OK, but AZ sun melted the glue so taking it off was a nightmare. I spent two weeks with 3m pad and Goo Off.

No clue, haven't spoken to him in a while. I know he used to run it at the Texas Mile a lot and was never easy on cars. Probably ran into some troubles with it.
My local pro said it is much more difficult than tint or clear bra. 11k isn't that far off from what a wrap would cost, and the paint will last a lot longer.

I've wrapped my wife's door handles with gloss wrap. I was skeptical at first but it looks just like the rest of the paint on her car and has held up well as I was expecting to see scratches after a few car washes. However it is surprisingly durable. I did use a high quality film though, 1080 3M Dinoc.
It's a little pricey to use as a one-season whim - but if I start tracking the 'Vette more (which is the plan), it would be nice to have the vinyl soak up a little bit of the abuse that the paint would otherwise get.

Never done it myself, but have a former colleague who has it done immediately when buying a new car before driving it much. He recently had his new Tesla wrapped, and it looks great. It isn't cheap though. He doesn't have any concerns about that part of it.
I’m looking at wrapping my C63. Going from black with Stock emblems and trim to matte silver with matte black trim.
My 996 has saddle interior so that limits my color options.
Philosophically, I’m totally on board with wraps (obviously). It’s a low cost temporary change. Why not?

Is a good wrap even that cheap though? I thought they were a few grand. Honestly unless the car was disassembled enough to do a complete color change it would bug me to have the mismatch but by that point I would probably just get a repaint.
I'm not all that impressed with wraps, even very expensive installations. They can still tear/chip, and once done you have to replace a huge panel to fix it.
I'll stick with paint...
