A google search shows some people now use metal pegboards which to me seems unnecessary expensive.

I recently bought a new house and of need to rebuild my workshop. Anyone have any suggestions where to buy pegboard and all the hook accessories? Harbor Freight has somethings, but not, for example, a magnet bar to hold wrenches. A google search shows some people now use metal pegboards which to me seems unnecessary expensive. I've never had a problem with the particle board type.

if you are just looking for masonite peg board and hooks, try CheapoDepot or Blowes they should have 4x8 sheets

Slatwall is a much nicer option. You can often get it used from retail renovations.

I bought all of my slat board from a fixture supply company. MUCH less expensive and MUCH better selection. https://www.barrdisplay.com/slatwall.html I'd bet you can find somewhere like this local to you.
