Im not sure how you can determine when the Classic IIs were installed unless you can find a receipt.

I KNEW there was a reason for me to believe that these rims were dealer installed when new.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a highly optioned early build 1999 996. It lists hallow twist wheels as an option, but the car has had Classic II wheels on it for as very long time. But I can't figure out when they were installed.
Were these rims a dealer installed option only that year or could they have been a factory option? If factory, would there be an option number on my hood decal? What number?
Yes, and yes... They were a factory option, but clearly your car was delivered with the Turbo Twists. Im not sure how you can determine when the Classic IIs were installed unless you can find a receipt. In any case, they are a great looking wheel, albeit a pita to keep clean...
Agreed on both statements!
They are on the FACTORY invoice? Not dealer invoice? Could you post or email me a scan of it?
I think I'll never know on this. But it is so highly optioned I was thinking maybe it was a dealer installed original option.
Its certainly possible that the car was delivered to the dealers lot with the tts, but the buyer wanted the classic IIs so the dealer swapped them out
But the hallow twist wheels were an option, right? Meaning someone ordered and paid for them, then would have paid again for the Classics, which seems weird. I guess this would make sense only if the car was not custom ordered, but I don't know whether or not that's the case. Seems like a lot of options for an inventory car. Who knows...
Yes they were an option. Yes they are listed on the sticker under the hood. On my 2003 window sticker they are listed under the options list as '18" Lt Alloy Carrera Wheel' at an additional cost option at $1435. The factory option code was M411 and it is listed on my underhood sticker. I am not sure what wheels came stock if you did not select the optional Carrera's.

Hmm, I thought code 411 is: "18" Carrera 5-spoke wheels" as per
https://www.stuttcars.com/technical/...-codes/996-02/
Which appear to be these, only from 2002-2005 (mine is 1999):
https://www.suchertire.com/Detail/560/67311
This site seemed to be more accurate and had better descriptions in terms of what the options actually were:
https://www.stuttcars.com/porsche/17098/
My original wheel code is: 408 18" 993 Turbo Technology hollow spoke wheels
(
https://www.stuttcars.com/porsche/17098/
)
I just re-read my CarFax report. I KNEW there was a reason for me to believe that these rims were dealer installed when new. The very first entry on my CarFax is:
09/02/1998 Pre-delivery inspection completed. Wheel(s) replaced
I'm thinking it's worth a try to call the selling dealership.
Actually, I see now that the BBS Sport Classic II wheels are NOT a factory option because there is no code for them in the 1998-2001 codes list:
https://www.stuttcars.com/technical/...des/996-98-01/
So these were clearly only available as a dealer accessory.
I'm going to call the original selling dealer to see if they have records as to whether these wheels were installed upon sale, which is what the CarFax seems to say.
