It started up, and while first idiling it sounded like a diesel truck, and I knew this was just everything repressurizing with the new oil, because after it ran for 20 mins it went away.

Now, the main point, I just got the replacement pump and it recommends cleaning the tank before installing it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The faster I get this fixed the faster I can treat this car with the respect it rightfully deserves.
Hello everyone,
Thanks for reading. I just recently saved a 911, not a turbo, just the Carrera. This car has been sitting for over 5 years before It became my own. Naturally before even attempting to start the car, I drained the fuel tank, bought a new battery, changed the oil and filter, and bought some new tires for it. I started the car after I changed the oil and put in the new gas after draining. It started up, and while first idiling it sounded like a diesel truck, and I knew this was just everything repressurizing with the new oil, because after it ran for 20 mins it went away. I then trickle charged the battery for 2 nights and when I returned it would not start, and Im certain the fuel pump wasnt working, which is normal when a car has been sitting and the relay is fine. I know its especially popular with Porsches and high end cars. Now, the main point, I just got the replacement pump and it recommends cleaning the tank before installing it. I have done my research on how to replace the fuel pump and that seems like a fun, new, and attainable challenge. Does anyone know of a video or diagram or is there an article anywhere that describes how to take off the fuel tank all together? Id rather do it properly and take it off, than half *** it and not take it off and risk ruining the new pump. Im not a rich kid who can just take it to a shop to have it done. Im a 20 year old who has rent to pay and other financial responsibilities as well. I love to work on anything with a motor, and I am fairly familiar with car maintenance work. The faster I get this fixed the faster I can treat this car with the respect it rightfully deserves. Any advice or help is extremely appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex

You don't need to remove the entire fuel tank. That is a major PITA job. Install the new fuel pump and jumper the relay to make it pump gas into a container until it runs clear. Is the check engine light on? Does the tach needle move when trying to start it? If not, then it might be the CPS (crank position sensor) preventing a start. One problem at a time.
You dont mention if its a C2 or C4... big difference when trying to clean/flush fuel tank. Lets assume its a C2... follow suggestions above. If its a C4 its got the saddle tank which presents a different set of challenges...
Hey Joe,
The tach does move when trying to start and the battery is at 14v before install, 12 when installed, and 10 when trying to start. At 10 because of all the power needed for the car I believe. CEL is not on.
