The first thing Id do is check per this thread given you had recent service to the car that likely required disconnecting/moving around wiring.

Suggestion · Original poster

The O2 sensors were a known issue because we tried to fix it during the initial repair, trying new sensors and spacers, but I guess that didn't work.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Greetings! I'm a new(er) member here (had an account before, lost that email and login), and I purchased my first car, a 2001 996 C2 in Nov 2015 with 137,000km, after saving up my part time job money for seven years while going through university. Had a great time with the car and put many miles on it, but at about 175,000km last August, I found metal shavings in my oil filter, with the cause being the original IMS that was still in the car. Fast forward 6 months, and the LN engineering bearing was installed, all the crud was cleaned out, and thankfully, I caught it before everything grenaded. There was some headwork machining done because everything was apart anyway, and we installed a Fabspeed cold air intake as well as the Sport - Cat system. The dealership who sold me the car (we'll call them Shop #1, an independent, not Porsche) did all the work. The check engine light remained on due to the new cats, they said. Just last week, since I'll be driving cross country with the car in June, I decided to go to a different independent Porsche place in town (very well known, we'll call it Shop #2). There was some valve lifter chatter, likely from the fact that the car was sitting because I've had exams this past month and didn't want to distract myself with driving too much. I asked Shop #2 for a once over, and these are the results they found: "Fault codes: P1128 O2 sensor adaptation bank 2 P1130 O2 sensor adaptation bank 1 P1117 O2 heater circuit behind cat bank 1 P1118 O2 heater circuit behind cat bank 2 P1341 Camshaft Adjustment Findings: Bank 1 and 2 O2 sensors behind cats are faulty. Vacuum leak is present causing fault codes P1128 and P1130 4.5% Fuel behind added at idle. Camshaft position 1 deviation: -6.05* (Max spec -10.27*) Camshaft timing out of spec." The O2 sensors were a known issue because we tried to fix it during the initial repair, trying new sensors and spacers, but I guess that didn't work. My issue is the camshaft deviation. In my mind, should the deviation not be zero? The second shop doing the inspection said the deviation should be fixed sooner rather than later, and said I should go back to the shop who did the original work, because this wasn't normal. Shop #1 who did the work said since it's within max spec, it's not something we need to worry about until it gets worse. Here's my issue - I'm not a car-guy in the sense that I know everything that's going under the hood, and I'm young as well, this is my first car. I'm not really sure what to do, and how to approach this. Shop #1 is going to look into the vacuum leak and see if the results of any deviations change at all. I just need some advice and what is normal, and where I should really go from here. Thanks so much! -Matt

I know no more than what I got from searching under the code you listed above. The first thing Id do is check per this thread given you had recent service to the car that likely required disconnecting/moving around wiring. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/boxst...tric-code.html if that doesnt reveal anything, this seems like the next thing Id investigate: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-p-1341-a.html
