I immediately drove the car to an indy shop to have the used air replaced with brand new OEM air.

The video also shows recap/retreaded tires, which aren't the same as "used" tires.

So I think there are times where one used tire to match your other "used" tires can be appropriate ....

Also, beware of people selling used IMS bearings, refurbished water pumps, and used engine oil that was "filtered".

Suggestion
Back in my youth there was a tire shop around here where if you knew what to look for you could get a sweet deal on a set of "used" tires, many of which still had the mold nubs on them.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I hate that video, was it made as a joke? Its like they tried to draw it out as long as possible and never really get to any true content outside of repeating that its dangerous to buy used tires (and showing 90% unrelated clips of tires being serviced). Don't waste your time watching it - it never gets to anything of substance.
Here's a recap: Don't buy used tires that you think are new. There are people on street corners selling 'new' tires that they've dremmeled out the treads of to make them appear new. Everyone is out to get you. Used tires will kill you. Yada yada yada.
Dammit, I had a sweet deal lined up on some recapped trailer tires for my 996.
Half the "revealing" footage in that hack piece could be from building up and cutting tread into
new
tires. Some of the footage also looked like heavy equipment tire overhauls; I've never seen an ore hauler have a high-speed blowout on the highway.
When I was a student and was driving a peugeot 205 gti I tried saving some money by buying remolded tires, they were total garbage, the balancing shop had to add so much weight to try and balance them it was ridiculous and they still didn't balance properly.
I buy only good brand tires now for my cars and motorcycles...
Nobody - which is why the video doesn't have anything to do with buying used passenger car tires. Almost no retreads are sold in the US for passenger cars these days. The video also shows recap/retreaded tires, which aren't the same as "used" tires.
Other than not being applicable in any way to the 996 or anything else I drive, though, I found it very useful.
Great post. Strong content. Much success.

Oh, I've bought my share of used tires ...
But, like pretty much everything else in life, it all comes down to definitions. Back in my youth there was a tire shop around here where if you knew what to look for you could get a sweet deal on a set of "used" tires, many of which still had the mold nubs on them. Funny thing is, they were usually the sizes that came OEM on large, powerful American sedans ... as part of a package that included lights, sirens, and dog-dish hub caps.
Those of you with a nose for a good scam (i.e. just about everyone here) can probably figure out the rest; all I know is, back when I couldn't afford new tires, my car still had good rubber under it. And by some quirk of fate, it was exactly the same stuff that the New York State Police were using ;-)
When I purchased my 911 - it had one off-brand tire that of had put on due to flat in road trip. I had a 1/2 used pirelli on the other side and got another 1/2 used pirelli off flea-bay -perfect match and no issues - but in general i would not put a pair of used tires on my 911. I did similar thing with landrover when I shredded a tire off road - with good results. So I think there are times where one used tire to match your other "used" tires can be appropriate ....
I would never buy used tires for my 996 but I was once forced to use used air in a brand new set of tires installed at a Porsche dealership because the service advisor claimed that he couldn't source new air for the tires. It's my own fault, I never should have taken the car to a Stealership for service. To add insult to injury, the dealership didn't even have a hot barista...I had to make my own damn coffee!!!
I immediately drove the car to an indy shop to have the used air replaced with brand new OEM air. I really dodged a bullet with this one, the indy said that if I had driven the 996 any further on that used air it would have surely led to a CEF. To be safe, I'm going to order a few spare cans of OEM air to keep the tires topped up.
